Essential Massage & Spa is a growing business despite having to be shut down for two months last spring due to the pandemic.
“We’re definitely busier than when we moved into our building on East Franklin Street,” said owner Jacki Amstutz, “and we had more business last year than the previous year despite the pandemic.”
Essential Massage has expanded both its services and its merchandise in the past year for its clients who are seeking to live a healthy and natural lifestyle.
Dr. Elle Hutchins joined the staff in September of 2020 and is offering a wide array of new services including reiki (healing therapy), meridian balancing, hypnosis, nutritional counseling, and reflexology with acupressure. She also offers deep tissue massage with cupping, tendon stretch, and trigger point release.
Hutchins has her doctorate in wholistic therapies including coursework in psychology, counseling and spiritual counseling.
Hutchins works Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
“She offers a lot and is getting very busy,” Amstutz said.
Other staff members — aesthetician Jennifer Abbott and therapists Dorothy Hartman, Alesha Van Derhyde, Esther Garrison, Crystal Herbert, and Amstutz are always taking continuing education classes to increase their skills and broaden their knowledge.
Herbert is now offering raindrop massage and new menus are offered on a seasonal basis, Amstutz says. “For example, we offer a holiday hot stone massage with holiday oils.”
Abbott offers facials and microneedling, which uses small needles to prick the skin. This procedure generates new collagen and skin tissue resulting in firmer, smoother skin.
Amstutz offered a limited number of skincare and body care products when she began her business.
Today, a large area in the front of Essential Massage displays an expanded section of skincare and body care products such as scrubs and lotions. The business also offers bar soaps, foaming hand soaps, and chakra crystals, stones, oils, and sprays. Amstutz has expanded her line of Essential Oils and also offers paraffin gloves as well as facial masks that can be applied and peeled off.
New and appealing fashion accessories such as earrings, bracelets, diffuser bracelets, handbags, ballcaps, knit beanies, and other fashion accessories fill the front of the store.
Spa attendants and receptionists who also handle the retail aspect of the business are Angelia Scott and Regan Combs.
