essential oils course accredited

Help please.....does anybody know of a reputable and not costly course that gives an essential oil qualification?
i dont wish to be a massage therapist so don't want to do a course including lots of massage and massage case studies etc.
i would just like an essential oil qualification that will allow me to use essential oils with Reflexology....
Grateful of any advice.

So long as you have done your AP&P you should beable to get onto most Aromatherapy courses unless the school you go to doesn't really recognise the AP&P course you did as a comprehensive course to follow on from.

I work with Likisma who do Aromatherapy parties and they teach the basic fundimentals and teach to both the consultants who pass on the benefits and the safety factors of using oils. You can join then for very little and then buy at a discount and/or do parties.

I like working this way as I am an Aromatherapist and I get more clients at the parties and then with clients who love the products they book parties to get themselves some freebies......so it works both ways

the problem i am having is that i have my a&p ,but i don't have a massage qualification..... most aromatherapy courses want you to have a massage qualification first.
i don't really want a massage qualification,just an essential oils qualification to add to my reflexology.

Kevala do an “A - Z of Essential Oils” correspondence course. Looks good but do not know if it – as I have not done it. There may be some courses that are fine with just your A&P but most will add the massage part too. Most Aromatherapy courses like you to be knowledgable in the full massage techniques so that should you ever need to use massage you can. Refelexology is in some ways a condenced version of the full massage but I do not know as yet if there is one school that speciallises in just essential oils for reflexologists. Maybe look at it from a diferent angle and go back to reflexology and see if they do add on or bolt on courses for the oils for qualified therapists.

Like I say Likisma has a good basic training on oils and where they are essentially a party plan company they do have very good knowledge of the oils and the contra-indications for using them. They also have a wealth of knowledge of the aftercare area and can advise on the different application methods....ie bath, massage, inhalation etc.

Thanks Beduffgirl....i had a look at details of the course you suggested on the website...it looks like exactly what i want,i'm just going to check if i will get decent insurance first.........but it looks really interesting.

You would have to check with your insurers whether you would be insured to use essential oils on your reflexology clients with training such as Likisma give, as this is primarily so that you can sell the oils. I did work for Likisma for a while, but to be honest, I didn't learn anything I didn't already know from a previous Introduction to Aromatherapy course and I certainly wasn't insured to use eo's on clients with that knowledge.

I'm pretty sure that the science of using essential oils without massage is called aromacology - you might want to do a search and see if that brings anything up.

Not all insurers exclude these companies and you are covered as a therapist and no one oil company has independant insurance companycover rights.

Likisma have there own customer insurance cover also but for anyone that wants to make an informed choice of there own I would be happy to send brochures and I will contact the company and come back to this chat and let you know the official reply

Kree - how did you get on? I am looking at the Kevala A-Z Essential Oils Diploma as I don't want to train as an Aromatherapist but would like to use Essential Oils safely with my other therapies. I would love to hear if you have started this course and if so, how you got on.

because aromatherapy works through inhelation and transdermal absorption most aroma courses will include massage to give the desired effect, it would be intresting if you find one and good luck with it

hi, my friend was interested in essential oils etc, but had 4 children and could not go to college. she enroled on the bsy aromatherapy diploma home study course. you complete paperwork to suit your lifestyle then you go for a one day practical in london/devon etc and then you take an exam to pass. my mate said she could do it at her own pace which was great for her. she loves the BSY courses and the qualification is recognised.

Well in the end i just decided to really go for an aromatherapy course with massage included etc .It has worked out much more costly,but i am really enjoying the course i am doing with ITHMA(ifpa accredited).i am doing the aromatherapy diploma now...it's a lot of work instore,but really amazing.i didnt go for the distance learning course in the end as i am not very disciplined with home study,.Hope you found a suitable course.

I was just going to put in a new thread about a course that is based upon the essential oils them selved rather than the practical side of it. I wish to do something that involves essential oil blending etc, which will go hand in hand with my other certificates I have

I would prefer a home Study cource too, so if anyone knows where to look or has some insights please let me know

hi suppermummy and itharial, i am currently doing the kevala aromatherapy a-z and it is very thorough. it is in 3 modules and you complete each module then email or post back for marking. you get own tutor and optional workshops you can attend as well. there is at the end of it a 3 hour exam! if you are a massage therapist then there is also case studies to do as well. it is alot of work but really interestng. as well as learning about oils you also learn about product making.

Hi - this is my first posting as only just joined.

I'm just finishing a massage course, and was thinking of taking an aromatherapy course online.. I have found a reasonably priced home study course at www.oxfordcollege.ac .

I'd be intrested to know if any body has heard about this learning centre/course?
