I recently got a flyer in the mail about a CE course on pain therapy. It is from etps education (http://www.etps-education.com). It uses a hand-held device that delivers a micro current. Used on acupuncture/trigger points combined with manual therapy, it is advertised to relieve many chronic pain conditions. It looks interesting, and seems like something I'd like to learn more about, but I have a dial-up computer service and can't access the videos on their website. It isn't an inexpensive course, so I'd like to learn more about it before shelling out hard earned cash. Does anyone on this site know about this modality? Have you taken the course or recieved this treatment? Is it as effective as advertised? Any info will be appreciated, thanks.

It looks great!

I suspect that the seminar is reasonable in cost but the equipment isn't. I also suspect that a background in acupuncture would help.

I have been looking at a product http://www.miridiatech.com that I think is similar, except that it graphs the meridians too. I have emailed to the latter company to ask for the similarities/differences between the products.

Thanks for the info, I'll definately check it out. If something like this really works, it sure would save wear and tear on the hands and wrists! Would have to brush up on acupuncture points, I had some acupressure training, but we didn't learn all the same points, and it's been a long time ago. Think you're probably right about the cost of the equipment.

I own the etps 1000 and I am very happy with it. I purchased it about two years ago when I took an introductory workshop with Bruce Hocking at the FSMTA conference. I was already sold on etps because I met an etps practitioner who gave me some immediate relief from ongoing hand/wrist pain at the time; I've been an LMT for over twenty years - enough said!

Anyway, after taking the class I was convinced it was what I needed to help keep myself going. I work at a couple of resort spas and they don't offer etps so I only have mine for personal use. With the book that comes with device and basic acupuncture point information (there are lots of etps videos on youtube) I'm still going strong and pain-free. I don't use ice anymore (which I used to use almost daily) and I'm sure it's saved me thousands in days off and lost massages. Whenever I get hand, wrist, back, knee, neck or headache pain I whip out my etps and know exactly which points to hit. I've used it on my wife and children too.

I know I'm probably sounding like a commercial but my point is that it does work (at least it has for me) so I would encourage anyone who is interested to look into it, take an introductory class, maybe integrate it into their practice and use it for self-care - your career will last longer!

Could you say anything about the costs of the equipment and/or classes? I am having trouble finding that information on their website, although I'm about to do some more digging...

Does it say anywhere on that website what ETPS stands for? I had to go somewhere else to find that it means "electrotherapeutic point stimulation therapy". I didn't even find this under the "What is ETPS Therapy?" tab. :undecided:

Also, do the borders of the body text appear to run into the tabs on the left side of the screen for anyone else? If not, it could be the browser I'm using.

It looks interesting, but I don't buy the published explanation of how it works.

Here is just one of several statements that contradict known facts about the anatomy and physiology of tissues:

ETPS can be used post-surgically to improve the condition of the scar by "repolarizing" and softening the tissue which greatly improves the healing process and helps eliminate complications from the scar tissue.

Here's another:

Applying ETPS to the muscles on each side of a pinched nerve will immediately relax the paraspinal muscles and “release” the nerve root entrapment, providing significant relief to the suffering patient. Treat the neck for upper limb pain and low back for leg pain.
