Extra for hot towels?

Hi all,

I am considering buying a hot towel cabi.

Does anyone charge extra for the hot towel treatment? What if I include a full body hot towel add on treatment? This might take a few extra minutes, thus accounting for the additional charge, not to mention the extra laundry. Does anyone do such a thing? Or do you just include the hot towels as part of your price? Now one in my area uses hot towels, that I am aware of.

I don't charge extra for hot towels but then again the way I use them it doesn't add any time to the treatment. Time = money

But....I only use a few towels per treatment. One at the beginning on the back to help warm the tissue, perhaps one more on the back if I've done deeper therapy and one around the neck as they are face up. Sometimes one to wrap the feet in??

If you're using a lot of towels and making it a "towel" focus treatment then perhaps it would be ok to charge more.

I just figure the towels are a way to enhance my massage and set me apart from other therapists.

we were taught to use 2 hand towels and 1 wash cloth. the wash cloth is wrapped around a gel eye mask to be place on the client once supine. i don't do this any more cuz i hate it when i'm receiving and it goes cold. the hand towels are for the feet. they do 3 things:
1) warm towels on the feet feel divine
2) easy way to pull the muscle from heel
3) clean feet before massaging them

my clients LOVE the foot towels. they even like it during the texas summers. LOL! i don't charge extra cuz 2 hand towels don't add much to my laundry.

2 towels per client dont seem like a lot, but when you have 25 clients a week, it adds up. That would double my laundry for the week. (I have a laundry service for my sheets.) I will not have onsite laundry machines at the new place either.

good point. i've see people charge $5 for moist heat packs. maybe $2 would be fair for towels?

The new spa where I'm working has hot towels available in a hot towel cabinet, for our clients... but I have only used one once so far.
They do offer other spa treatments where they really go through them though...
Personally I think it'd be better to raise the price of services enough so that you could "absorb" the cost of using them.

extra for hot towels?

I have a question about the hot towels because I was considering using them also...are they moist hot towels or dry hot towels? Either sounds so wonderful!!

It can be done either way, bluejeans. I love dry hot towels, but most people (at least from what it sounds like here) love moist hot towels.

Supposedly moist heat is more penetrating?
At the spa where I work they wet them, ring them out and roll them up in a hot towel cabinet. However, they can also be kept in a crockpot. Just remember to check the temperature before placing it on the client.
One of the other therapists told me she puts on 2 hot towels on the client's back and then puts a dry one on over the top to hold the heat in for the client before drawing up the sheet/blanket.
I have also wrapped "cold feet" in a hot towel (for each foot), followed by a dry one to help hold in the heat.
Remember however that this time of year, the towels tend to cool fairly rapidly... so you may want to consider removing them or refreshing them within a few minutes.
Try it on a few family members or friends first, see if it's the sort of thing you want to bother with. I have to admit in the beginning I thought it wasn't really worth my time. The more clients I try it with... the more "touched" they are that I am that concerned about their comfort.
