I spent another great weekend in the Falls and Niagara on the Lake. This weekend was terrific for a foodie. It was Fabulicious weekend at the Niagara on the Lake wineries so I started my trip with lunch at Hillabrand Winery. I’m not sure if any of you have ever taken advantage of Fabulicious, but I HIGHLY recommend it. It’s usually in November, near to the end of the month. At Hillabrand, I had the BEST salad I have ever tasted. Watercress, candied pecans, goat cheese, beets and pears in a light dressing. I followed with whitefish in a butter sauce which was really well paired with a buttery chardonnay. I ended the meal with the nicest bread pudding. All for $25. It was fantastic!
Dinner was unbelievable. We visited Remingtions on Victoria St in Niagara Falls. The Diver Scallops appetizer was cooked to perfection and paired with asparagus (2 of my favorite foods together!!) I honestly could have made a meal out of that and been happy. I followed my appetizer with crab legs and they were the biggest I had ever seen. Beautifully cooked. Again, a great dining experience.
Lunch the following day was spent at an inn at Niagara on the Lake. It’s called Pillar and Post. I believe it was HOF that suggested this place and I am thankful! Beautiful old country inn filled with charm. All of their Christmas decorations were already up, complete with a HUGE tree in the middle of the room. The dining room was closed for lunch so we ate in the lounge, by the fireplace. I wasn’t overly hungry so I stuck to a salad but included this place in my foodie tour simply because of the atmosphere. The dinner menu looked luscious so it will be a place I would visit again.
Since it was still Fabulicious weekend, we ended our food tour at Pellar Estates Winery where we met a few friends for a reserve wine tasting and dinner. This place is quite beautiful, a mansion with a grand fire place. The dining room was elegant but cozy. The thing I remember most about my dinner there was the lovely, creamy mushroom risotto. To die for.
All in all a terrific weekend of food and wine that I thoroughly enjoyed. I hope some of you enjoy similar experiences if you should visit.
