Facebook Chat not working?

It says that I am online (green dot) I click on someone who I know is online and as soon as I open a box to chat or type a message and send it says they are offline (when they are not). It never shows other people that I am online even though it tells me that I am online. It is not the computer as other people login to the same computer and their chat works fine and I have tried on multiple computers and it does the same thing. I am assuming it must be something that was changed in a setting but I have no idea how to fix it and facebook doesnt respond to questions asked.
This is not something that is just happening today. It has been going on for over four months, I just decided I cared and wanted to get it fixed. It has been happening every day, every time I login for four months.
Yes it is turned on. That is why I said it says the green dot that says you are online.

Facebook glitch... It's full of them :L unfortunately there is no way you can prevent this. Try contacting Facebook somehow and see if they can get it sorted out.

It happends all the time, and there is no way to fix it on your own. The best you can do is maybe logging out and back in. If it still doesn't work after that, post as your status that your IM isn't working so people can message you until the problem is fixed by Facebook. It happened to me, and all I had to do was wait...then it was back to normal in no time. Just be patient. Good luck.
