Farang stabbing in Seadragon.

First off I was not there to see this so the story is murkey and has been relayed by drunks..

Seems some guy was stabbed at the end of Seadragon last night. Version I heard was that he was stabbed by a thai guy 3 or 4 times.. One mate of mine was on the scene and tried to assist him but so the story goes he didnt have much chance. I have been told the guy died at the scene.

Happened some time around midnight (definately before 12:45 - 1am when another mate arrived and the whole situation was over).. Seems like an oldish guy 50 - 60 ish and no one is aware of any motive more then probably drunken bullshit...

Not able to verify any of these fact this is just what I have been told. Anyone hears more post it.

i walked past about 12.30 and something had happened. Huge crowd including Police in the middle of Bangla opposite Sea Seadragon. Just thought it was probably a fight so didn't hang around.

It seems like anytime anything negative is mentioned about Phuket some posters immediately start trying to smooth it over as an over-reaction and other guys are all "Don't scare off the tourists, Johnny". Like we're all idiots or something? Let's just keep the discussions rational and honest, there are obviously negative aspects about all subjects. This is a great board for information dissemination and some intelligent posters and opinions. But I can't take an opinion seriously when it sounds more like a commercial.

That said I will certainly be back soon and yes I will be bringing money.

I was just in the beautiful Land Of Smiles and happened to spend about 10 days in Phuket. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you interview a Thai Tourist Police volunteer a few months back, and didn't he say that they have no Police powers and are merely a liaison with the tourists? I am a Police officer and I found it somewhat alarming to see, patrolling the streets of Phuket, a crew of Thai Tourist Police volunteers. My concern stems from the obvious appearance of these, volunteers. If they have no Police powers, why are they patrolling the streets with no official Thai Police presence. If they have no Police powers of arrest, why are they equipped with handcuffs? If they have no official Police powers why are they equipped with mace / pepper spray holders? If they have no Police powers, what is the need for collapsible batons? If their presence is to provide assistance to tourists and act as liaisons between the tourists and the Thai authorities, why are they dressed in paramilitary attire, combat boots and black berets? As a real Police officer, I find it extremely offensive to see these pretend Police on patrol without any supervision. When they volunteer, are these play Police screened for arrest history in their country of origin? They should be. In my profession I find many wannabe cops impersonating the Police, but the fact is you are either the Police or you're not. Looking at these counterfeit cops, and the general age, it is obvious that these guys couldn't make it as real cops in their country of origin, for whatever reason, and now they want to play dress up. Unfortunately for the tourists, this is a dangerous situation. In times of crisis, or in an emergency situation, it is critical that fully trained personnel are present at the scene and not an imitation of authority. I know that this is not how the volunteers are used in Pattaya. I have never seen the volunteers patrol Walking Street without an official Police presence. What makes Phuket different? The concept of Thai Tourist Police volunteers isn't bad. I think they should have greater control and screening practices to ensure that the volunteers are volunteering out of a sense of responsibility to the community and not out of a desire to exercise their perceived authority.

Always felt confortable in Soi Eric, maybe it is the lightening.

bit off subject but just like to share...

two of my pals got stabbed in thailand about three years ago. he was buying beers for him and his pal and had pulled money from his pocket (showing to much, he said) and a thai guy walked up to him mumbled something in thai and put his hands up, as if ready to fight, then bam the thai guy hits my pal in the face, so my pal knowing wing chung (sorry about the spelling) starts hitting him back at the same time my other pal whos with him runs over to see whats happening and to sort things out, so now both of them are sorting out this thai guy. he runs off! my pals look and theres blood everywere, he stabbed both of them.(bastard) one of them was stabbed twice, one inch from the heart and in the stomach and the other not so bad in the stomach.
the worst one had to be opened up at the hospital because of internal injurys and the other just stiches.

but it gets worse, after comming home he feels bad pains from his stomach so he goes to hospital and finds out that he has internal bleeding, doctors say that his internal injury wasnt stiched right so they had to do it agin.

bad i know, but the great thing about it is, when he first told me a few weeks after comming back, his words were, ''it could have happened anywere in the world, even outside my doorstep'' ''it wont put me off, ill go back'' and true to his word he went back two times after.
now hes off to south america.

that said it doesnt put me off one bit either, for some people its a shock to hear but ive grown up around knives, friends getting stabbed, even shot.
just be aware, respectful and be carefull and the chances of this happening to you is very very slim.

My mate is just on his way home from Patong. He said his GF heard the Austrian arguing with a motorbike taxi driver who then stabbed him. Happens a lot apparently. What version do you believe ? The "Suicide" theory is obviously bullshit. Who commits suicide by stabbing himself in a crowded street ? And the police believe all this. ????:what:

I am not saying loss of face is an acceptable reason or trying to make excuses for why they do it- read what I have written.

I am trying to explain how littel life means and to my friend from the US- I am not trying to make it seem like a commercial.

I have stated that people die in Thailand and guns and knives are readily available- if you mind your own buisiness then the chances are you will be OK.

If you are 'too scared' by what I have written and think I'm trying to 'paper over the cracks' then don't come to LOS- it's no skin off my nose.

I'm trying to educate you and explain the facts of life and put things in perspective for you. If that offends you then I'm sorry, but maybe you should stay in your nice safe enviornment where you can read about experiences rather than enjoy them.

When I originally posted about the "Men in White" , I was of the opinion that they "just wanted to be seen". Quite a few BM thought they were a good idea and would be a useful deterrent. When I posted the Stickman article yesterday, it seems my initial impression of these guys is shared by others , as was said in the article - "the fact is ,you are either the police or you are not".

If these guys are there to assist the local police , they should only patrol with the MIB.

My only comment about the stabbing is that as yet we do not know all the facts . Was it an irate Thai taking it out on a Farang , or was the Farang causing problems ??? Until the facts are known , it is pointless to talk about going around in crowds , being afraid to walk the streets or even worse , to "organize ourselves".

I , for one , will still feel a lot safer walking down Bangla at night than I would in many British city centers.

I agree with you Allybabb pretty much all the way, killing a 50 years drunken old fellow over a dispute about a damn tuk tuk fare is insane and IMHO there is nothing that could possible defend such an action, I mean, giving a bid or trying to bargain a price is insulting a persons honor and worth killing for? That's bullshيt... Now even if the drunken old fella was being to loving in public with a girl that's no reason either to die for... All this have already been said and if we now mention the "honor" thing then yeah I guess the dad or the boyfriend or the brother of the bg in question may want to save face by killing the tourist however gathering say 5-10 people armed with at least a knife and jumping a 50 year drunk old guy, beating him up and stabbing him to death... Is that honorable? Again in my opinion that's not more "honorable" than a grown man beating a child or a grown man beating up a woman....

I dont believe the "suicide" story for one minute, but will run with it if it helps save the impression of things are safe.

I guess it will be up on the gazette site today, but last night a girl was saying about 10 Thais had come down from the Tiger disco and attacked the farang in Bangla and he's dead.

There is money in Patong and the transient population of both Thais and Farangs is enormous. It surely is not surprising that robberies sometimes occur when the participants are all drunk.

It is appalling that anyone should be stabbed in a busy street in broad night light and it is likely that it was a robbery that went too far and not some insidious farang retribution squad. But by and large Thai people have a huge propensity to "flee the scene" and not to intervene in issues which do not concern them.

My own view of the Thai Police I have actually met is that they are "pragmatic". The law in Thailand is subject to a lot of "interpretation" and it is a lot of trouble to lock people away for long stretches for small misdemeanours which they will almost certainly regret, if indeed they can remember them at all. However they are not beyond a swift "lesson" if you push too hard.

My favourite Police are Franco's green boys - Guarda Civil. I still have the machine gun bullets in my old rucksack when I was shot at by the police in Spain after I had been robbed in a side street in Barcelona and was running to them for help...

And I am still not running for the tube in London...

Story goes that the bf is a Thai boxer. She recently had a baby (1 1/2 months), and he was pi$$ed off about not being able to have sex with her yet, so he knocked her about, only this time he went way too far.

This came from another BG (fr of my gf) who works in the Soi.

I agree. It is a huge difference, but the common thing is that in both cases someone killed someone else over what they perceived to be a slight upon their honor/face, as the case may be. Even though it is hugely different, the result is the same. In either case, the damage is done, and all over injured pride.

As for losing their freedom, that is something they risk. Sometimes they get caught, sometimes not. In this case, apparently not.
