Farmville newbie on Facebook: Not gaining experience from harvesting?

Hi, I just started Farmville a couple of days ago and I ran into this problem:

Today I was harvesting my strawberries (around 15 lots of them), when I got that 'cream of the crop' ribbon pop up and my level jumped to 5. Since I only harvested around 5 of them before that, I continued - but my exp didn't go up any further...? Now I've got a feild of strawberries with no exp gained from them

Is there a reason for this? Is it a bug or part of the game?

What's the point in keeping on planting if I don't get exp from these things?

you do not get experience points for harvesting (unless the lot in particular was fertilized by a neighbor) only for buying stuff, helping neighbors, plowing, planting crops, and getting ribbons

its worth it to keep planting because every time you harvest those crops you get experience points

You need to start plowing more areas and planting more crops. Artichokes will increase everything for you. As the other post stated you need to visit you neighbors farms and work on them as well as tend your animals and trees for more coin. (experience points also come from visiting your neighbors farms.)
