OH MY! That was not very nice of the reporter to do, especially when you told her it was not relevant to the treatment. If she was going to put your weight in there, she also should have included that this does not matter at all. So.....for next time......perhaps keeping your weight to yourself would be a good thing.
I am not one of those 110 pound petite Ashiatsu therapists either, and one time I approached a local radio personality doing an appearance and I gave him my information and invited him for a session.....hoping of course, that he would love it and mention it on the air. He looked at me and blurted out "HOW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH?" There was a huge crowd around and I was mortified, because clearly to me, with the tone that he asked the question, it sounded like he was saying "YOU WEIGH TOO MUCH!" I was a bit surprised by his VERY LOUD question. I took a moment to compose myself and be sure that I was giving a polite, yet firm answer. I then told him that my weight has no bearing on the technique and that, just as with any other type of massage, I am sure to use the appropriate techniques and that I have had 90 pound women on my table who can attest to the fact that my weight does not make a difference. I assured him that this type of massage was a skilled technique in which I was fully trained and did not at all feel the same as when his kids might walk on his back! I smiled and walked away, hoping and praying that I would never get a call from him! I never did. I just knew he would be the type of client who would walk in with that "prove it" attitude and I don't like dealing with that type of person.
I also did a local TV show interview. The interviewer was not the best and I knew that, but it was good exposure. I have found that this modality needs a place where you can explain what it is and what it isn't, otherwise people have made up their own minds if they have a just an ad, or a brief description. So, the interviewer came for a session so that he was more familiar and had a base from which he could ask questions. He LOVED the session. I go for the interview a couple weeks later and he starts out by saying "Well, the last time we saw each other, I wasn't wearing any clothes!" I WANTED TO CRAWL OUT THE DOOR!!!!!! This was being taped, but it was a very low budget show and there was not time for re-doing things unless someone cursed or there was some MAJOR goof......this wouldn't have qualified. Of course, I had to say "Let's qualify that and let everyone know that you came to my office for an Ashiatsu session and that appropriate draping was used at all times. How did you feel after your session?" I had to take over the beginning of the interview and get it back on track.
We have a local paper here that is so small that if you write the article, they are happy to print it! That was certainly a nice way for me to get exactly what I wanted into the paper!
The publishing of your weight may turn some people off and that is unfortunate. Too late to do anything about it now. Hopefully, it is an opportunity to educate more people about it all.
I wish you much good luck.
