I have a client Ihave seen for the first time. She has a strong case of fibramyalgia.
I could hardly touch her and she was at a pain level of 6.
I did some myofacial to start and then worked into just a basic fluff massage oh sorry sweedish massage.
Today when I seen her (2 days later) she said she was in a lot of pain after the massage.
"It will go away right?"
Iv done a few people with fibramyalgia and had given relief to them. This one I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Although I can't give you any answers every Fibromyalgia client is different. I have a friend with it who can take deep massage and I've worked on others who can only tolerate the lightest pressure. Also don't forget eveyones reaction is also different. I'm sure others will chime in with some better answers.

She is clearly reacting to the work you did, but it is not clear why. Unless tissue damage was done (a real possibility), she should recover soon. Next time you see this person, you may need to work much more conservatively, with less pressure and at a slower pace.

It is possible that this person is currently unable to easily tolerate effleurage. I have seen one or two clients like this - when we replaced effleurage with gentle compressions and basic MFR, they were fine.

FMS people may also respond well to active stretching techniques like Muscle Energy Technique or AIS. Passive stretching, however, should probably be avoided due to the increased possibility of tissue irritation from ischemia during the passive stretch.

Thanks Jason,
that is great suggestion, She is very sensitive so i told her that when she comes in i will just do MFR with her and she was ok with that.
I will do mild compression on the legs and just do MFR on back, scalps, legs, arms. will MFR also work with trigger finger. I just posted another reply with kathryn about trigger finger and the same client if you happen to see it on line. Im trying to get this person in as much pain free as possible and will take any suggestions that anyone will have.
