Am I the only one here who still hasn't filed their taxes? LOL. I don't know why I've procrastinated this long, it has to be done, but I really don't know what to look for in a CPA. Everyone wants me to use "their tax person" but I don't know which one to trust. My partner's tax lady doesn't even ask him for receipts, so I really don't trust her to do it ethically. I spent a LOT of time putting my tax info together, not to just go in and tell her how much I've spent and how much I've made, making all my work pointless. Well, unless she's willing to trade for massage, lol.

I havnt done mine yet- i just paid my taxes from last year. We had to file an extention- my husbands fault- couldent get his stuff together. my tax person is a cpa- she is also is also a tax lawyer- she can act as a lawyer when it comes to taxes- or something like that. I would suggest looking for a person that knows all the currant tax laws and knows what you can and cant deduct. look for someone that isnt too expensive- i paid around $ 275 last year for my joint filing- the year before i paid this stuck up guy $300 for about an hours worth of work.

Ahh, I thought that 'no receipts to prove expenses = BS your way through showing expenses.' Maybe I will use her after all, didn't think of it as saving me money by saving her time.Ariala, I had all my paperwork done by about late Jan or early Feb, and from then on they've just sat there in a folder, lol.That means I don't actually HAVE to have a mileage chart for last year, I can estimate how many miles I travelled? Cool deal.

I use a software called Quicken.  It really comes in handy!  By entering info all year long and keeping up with it.  I simply run a report categorizing all of my expenses (ALL) and wait for the investment companies to send their info.  Then it is off to the accountant.   He usually calls me and we talk over the phone about any specifics he may have questions about, then its done.  My taxes were only $95.00 this year for a joint return on the 1040 form.  I know by him not having to sift through all of my receipts but, having them on the report categorized and memo on what they are for it saves him time and me $.The best part about this software is it has a tax estimator in it.  So, I will have some idea as to where I stand as the year progresses.  If I need more deductions I can adjust as I go. If you take the time every day (less than 5 Min.) it really pays off in the end!

Heh, sorry, I forgot the "" smiley at the end of that statement. I was kidding about not having to record my mileage. Someone here sent me a link to a place where I can get the mileage charts and I printed a few out and have been keeping up, but I don't remember if I have the link anymore. I think it was Pete who provided the link?  ???
