Finding and Renting Space

I keep reading posts where people talk about renting spaces, sharing offices or leasing out small offices inside a larger office. My question is how do I find these places? Are they advertised in the paper? I am totally clueless in finding a place I can do work out of besides my home. Is there anywhere or any place I might find that will rent me the room and possiblly get me clients on a IC basis? I just don't know where to start looking....

I used the local Craigslist commercial real estate section in addition to the bulletin board at my school to find a rental space. It worked well for me.

there are all kinds of places to look for/at. i guess it depends a bit on where you live and the types of places that are around. you could check into salons, chiro's offices, physical therapy offices, dental offices or any other "office" environment for just "a room". or you could look into commercial buildings for your own space. you could drive around and look for signs. you could look in the paper. you could contact a commercial realtor. you could go online and do a search.

i found my space my driving around and looking for "For Rent" signs in any commercial area. i find this way to be the best for me and the area i was looking for. i also checked the local papers. both of these are great avenues. but again, it may depend on your area.

Another thought if you want to rent a room in someone's space is to prepare a nice letter (I'd suggest preparing it here on a thread in Business & Marketing and get everyones input as to how it is looking to get the best of all ideas for what you want to do) and then mail it to all of the

...salons, chiro's offices, physical therapy offices, dental offices or any other "office" environment for just "a room".

One other place to consider would be psychiatrists offices (they are known to lease a large multi-room suites together).

For lease space, another to check out is "Corporate Office Spaces" (don't know how you find them, but maybe look in the phone book). These types of spaces usually are built around a single receptionist who takes calls for all of the people in the corporate office group. So you may have different types of people in this setting -- a few lawyers, an accountant, etc. and you may fit very well into a space like this.

You can also find a commercial lease "finder" (for lack of a better term). They are like a realtor or apt. finder - they can help you locate and negotiate your lease, at no cost to you.

I second craigslist.com. I found almost every space I've looked via their site including the one I am just about to rent.

Look in the newspaper. Sometimes they list those spaces under the cosmetology section since most of the spas and salons put their listings there. Also under the healtcare section of the help wanted ads will list for the Chiro's. I usually go into the site for my local paper and type "Massage" into the search engine without any other specifics and it will bring up all ads with that word in it. Tons of spaces to rent when I do that. I got really lucky. The lady who owns the shop where I am at called the school where I went and they called me and gave me the info. VERY nice lady. Wants room rent but will work with me off commission till I build a clientele and then I can pay rent.

Even if you have been out of school for awhile (unless it's been alot of years) call your school and speak to whoever it is that does the job placement. I know that with the school I went to, if Marie even knows you're not working she will hound you everyday with places that needs therapists. Bless that woman!! Even after I told her I didn't need their help, she called me no less than 3 days a week with openings. That's how I got my room where I am at with a wonderful, if not too perky woman with an "OH...let's do this t026 !!!!" attitude t012 t043 .
