Finding out what the "going-rate" is in L.A.

Hi everyone,

I come here every now and then and I love reading all the posts! I looked for a post that might answer my question before posting this, but couldn't find anything specific to L.A., so...

Are there any Los Angeles based outcall-only MTs on the board? If so, what are your rates? Do you offer packages, discounts, a sliding scale? I want to raise my rates and am not sure what the outcall range is - my massage therapist friends work at spas.

Going rates may not be your rate

I would not worry about what other people charge -- that is like worrying how much other people make. That is their business.

You figure out what you think what you offer is worth, and price accordingly.

We price our home visits at about the same rate as going to a top spa in the area, like Elizabeth Arden or the spa at a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons.

That is who we think our competition is. Figure out who yours is - based on your training, experience and the level of service you offer - and price accordingly.

great advice

Thank you - it's great advice. It doesn't matter so much what others are charging, but figuring out what I am worth. I'm taking in to consideration the massage I give and my experience and training but also: with gas prices and the traffic in LA, I really should be charging more.

I've been telling my clients my new prices and wouldn't you know...they haven't blinked. In fact, two of them have told me: "It's about time you raised your prices!"
