Finger cots - with oil or lotion?

Does anyone know if finger cots can be used with both oil and lotion? Or is one preferable to use over the other? I have a small cut on my hand (kitchen accident :?) and will need to wear a finger cot to work tomorrow. I remember in school being told to only use lotion or only use oil with finger cots, but now I can't remember which one to use! Does oil break latex down maybe?

Oil will break down the condom (oops) I mean finger cot. :wink: Same reason lubricants used for adult activities are water-based and not oil-based. Use lotion if you want to be super safe from your client's cooties.

I have used oil while wearing a finger cot, it usually takes a full hour session or more for the cot to degrade (it's not like it melts instantly on contact) If you want to use oil, just keep a couple of cots handy in your pocket for a quick change, in case you need one.

BTW, if it is a small owie, use the stuff that closes the wound....can't think of the brand name right now, but very good for minor scrapes and cat scratches.

Do you mean put New Skin over the small cut seekingequanimity...
bsm05, You might still want to put the finger cot on over it but it would give it double protection I suppose. *shrug*

But yes, I would have to agree, I would stay away from oil, since the finger cots are latex based. I have not been able to find them produced in a non-latex form... so I would say that the same rules apply for condoms... that you shouldn't use an oil based lubricant and find one that is oil based.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I ended up using New Skin on the cut and then a finger cot over the finger. I tried using lotion at first, but the latex seemed to keep me from sliding over the skin as much as I would have wanted, so I ended up using oil after that. I didn't have any problems with the latex breaking down during the session, but it seemed like the cot would get bigger and baggier during the hour! I guess it was getting stretched out. I also used forearms and elbows even more than normal; that helped too!
