Finger decompression weirdness

I have a client whose index finger on his left hand has something interesting going on.

While tugging gently on the finger, I can feel expansion like joints decompressing... only a bit "squishier"... and it happens every pull. He thinks it has something to do with playing violin in the past, as that finger was the most repetitively used.

Any thoughts or ideas as to what might have happened?

Hmmm...

Do you mean you can feel the joints pulling apart and then the bones bumping back together with or without a pop? Are you able to stretch the finger out and move it around freely? My fingers do this, but then my fingers, wrists, and hands are pretty much hyper-flexible. Sure with the rest of me was more flexible! lol

Do you think your client perhaps has just one hyper flexible finger or perhaps loose ligaments?

Yes, joints pulling apart, no pop. It's just the metacarpal-phalangeal joint. I think it might be hyperflexibility or loose ligaments, but am not sure what that would feel like, especially in a finger. Nothing to compare it to

It doesn't always do it, sometimes there's a feeling the client identifies as a "crunch", and it feels like the rest of the fingers to me. I don't feel/hear any crunch.
