First time in CR for, should we stay at the Del Rey?

I really value all the advice from all here so I thought I would ask a good place to stay. Me and about 10 buddies are coming in January for a bachelor party and wanted to know where to stay. I've heard good things about the bar at the Del Rey so I thought why not stay there. I have no idea how close it is to other night life, but thought maybe we could score some desent broads in the bar in the hotel. What do you guys think? Any place better? Thanks

Before asking a general question like that, you should really try a search for "bachelor party". If you cannot find an answer, then post it on the baord.

Anyways, the Del Rey (DR) is the center of it all. This is the reason why some love it while others don't like it. It's too close, it can become hectic/noisy/overwhelming. The DR is where the Blue Marlin (BM) is and it's the place where most of the independent chicas "work". On any given night (and day too), you have anywhere from 20 to 100 chicas in the hotel lobby and bar hanging around waiting for customers.

The Del Rey is not a horrible choice for first time visitors since it is at what we like to call "Ground Zero". You and your boys will be able to just go down the stairs at any hour of the day or night and find something at the Blue Marlin Bar on the first floor without even having to take a step outside. Just be aware that most experienced CR travelers have moved on to other hotels for a variety of reasons.
1) The location is great but based just on the rooms themselves there are much better values nearby.
2) It will cost each of you a $10 (or is it more?) chica fee each time you bring a girl upstairs. Other nearby hotels do not have such a fee or if they do charge much more reasonable amounts
3) If you've been there before, the novelty of being at the very heart of the action wears off and most guys prefer to stay at places that are not quite as hectic, noisy or pressured every time you go in and out of the hotel.
4) For many of the vets the BM has become mainly a place to watch the hardcore chicas ask and too often get $100/hr from the poorly informed newbies. Knowledgeable vets can still get chicas for half that amount there but just as often opt for other locales where chicas are more reasonably priced.

Don't get me wrong the HDR might be just the place for you and your group. You should reserve in advance whereever you plan to stay if you're going in the high season, but you do still have some time. Use it to read up on the various hotels, MP's, negotiating tactics, etc. and then, if you still can't find the info you need, ask a few pointed questions. Make an informed decision and educate yourself. It will improve the quality of your trip immeasurably.

JH first thing, how long is the group staying there? If for an extended party, they all need including yourself to buy the VIP card. if you stay at Presidente(read 2 blocks from BM) or the SL you will pay for the card on first trip. If these guys or yourself havn't been to CR before at least half will be back and it definetly worth the $39.00. I would personally recommend the presidente if you want to be within walking distance to ground zero, no chica fee, but only one chica per room unless you have the presidents suite, then two. Sportsman lodge, ...how many chicas can you fit into the room :shock: This is the happening place at this time. Bill and crew will have 10 additional rooms available by the time you get there. these rooms wil have A/C I understand. I stayed there in July and I'm an A/C kinda guy and I almost couldn't stand the chill without covers. Plenty of decent chicas hang out there, $50.00 per hour. Iris is a sweetie and worth much more. :twisted:

Our plan is the first two nights in SJ. Then a couple more throughout the country. This is our first time there so we want to see some other sites as well like the rain forest and maybe Arenal. Then one more night in SJ. Thnaks for the advice on the VIP card I will look into that. You say there are $50 options at the Presidente? Is there a bar in it as well, or are they just hanging around outside? How about the two block walk to the BM is that a safe walk? Sorry if I sound paranoid or like a pu*sy, just never been there before and have no idea what to expect. Thanks for your help.

Don't worry. Your questions are typical for a first timer. You should've heard some of the whoppers I asked before my first trip. Now with my second trip coming up in October, I feel like a pro with the help of the guys on this board. One piece of advice: drink in moderation so you are aware of what's going on around you. My buddy drank himself into sleep and was rolled by 2 chicas for $1500 (day's casino winnings) that he had on him. A lot of the guys will suggest you get a VIP card, I agree. None of us have any vested interest in it, but it does pay for itself quickly and the rest is gravy. There are hotel (Prez) discounts, restaurants, strip clubs, and the ever popular Zona Blue discount. :shock:

If you ever have any questions, do a search first. Then, if you don't find an answer post it.

To answer one of your questions, I don't think they allow working girls to hang out at the Prez. They are only allowed if accompanied by a guest.
