Hi,
I have mild TMD, characterised by jaw muscles which are prone to tightness and being tense.
For over a year now I have been doing a daily massage routine which seems to help a lot by relaxing my muscles in that area.
One technique I find particularly effective is, while pushing my jaw forward, taking my thumbs and pressing them into the space behind the very rear of my jaw bone on each side of my neck (i.e. under the earlobes). I press into this area forcefully, and sometimes also massage the point by tracing small circles with the thumbs.
Recently I have begun to worry whether this exercise will have any effects on my appearance: I don't want to end up with loose skin on my neck, or around this jaw area, from the forceful massage I feel I have to do daily.
There are plenty of articles online which talk about the fact that our skin in a living organ which adapts to circumstances, becoming "loose" because of a build up of fat, or when skin naturally looses elasticity due to age.
However, I can't find any information on whether skin can actually become permanently loose due to physical pulling/pushing as occurs in massage, or whether it is able to cope with these forces elastically and then return to its normal shape afterwards.
Any info appreciated. Thank you very much!
