Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputies pulled off a large operation targeting massage parlors in Forsyth County Friday, forcing a number of them into a shutdown.

An ordinance passed last year tightening up restrictions went into effect Jan. 1. The sheriff’s office said during a grace period, deputies went to the businesses, gave them copies of the ordinance and urged them to comply.

During Friday’s operation, deputies went to 15 establishments though not to have addressed the changes, issuing 18 citations to 10 businesses. Sheriff’s officials said five of them will not re-open. Others closed for the day until they could come into compliance with the ordinance.

Among the restrictions in the Jan. 1 law are rules requiring a massage therapist to be present anytime a business is open, that employees must be fully clothed and that beds and mattresses aren’t allowed.
