SOUTHINGTON— The Southington Public Library will offer free chair massages by Branford Hall students every Tuesday this month.
Advanced massage therapy students will give free 15 minute massages in order to complete the necessary requirements for a state license.

“The students have completed their program hours and now they are in clinic where they do 120 hands-on hours with the public through volunteer work,” said Amanda Hermann, supervisor of the clinic program.
The massages will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. It is the fourth year that the library has taken part in the program.
“We have a lot of hours to do and sometimes it’s hard to find people, this opportunity really helps us to do the necessary work while allowing us to work on multiple clients with various needs,” said massage student Natasha Gonzalez.
Three out of the four events will be held in the café area next to the information desk. The June 21 event will be held in the lower level program room.
“We are helping the students put in their hours and we are reaping the benefits, some staff members even come back after their shift to get a massage because they enjoy it so much,” said Michelle Lord, library assistant director.
The program is popular with patrons.
“I love it, I was here last year and they always do a good job,” said Southington resident Angela O’Meara
All massage chairs, cleaning equipment, and netted headrests are provided by Branford Hall.
“These events really allow the students to hone in on their own style, technique, and pressure,” said Hermann.
If a client is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must be present.
