Free treatment - I need your advice please

I would be very grateful for any comments about this. Its not a problem as such but something that is bugging me.

In April I went to a Healthy Living Show and was lucky enough to win a free treament on the raffle. The organisers of the show phoned me at home and said I will receive a letter from the company offering the free treatment. I didn't receive anything so after about a month I contacted the organisers to make enquiries and was told that they would remind the company and I would definitely receive a letter giving the details of the prize.

I received the letter and there was a choice of 4 prizes. I decided on the Reiki treatment and phoned up to make an appointment. The answering machine was on so I left a message stating who I was etc and left my number as the message said they will return calls. It is a few weeks now since I phoned. I feel upset that this free treatment seems to have been offered grudgingly and this has put me off. On the other hand it is a matter of principle that if they offered the prize they should honour that. I don't know whether to phone up again now or just leave it. What would you do?

You purchased the raffle ticket

You won the prize

You are entitled to your prize.

The company may be busy at this time, but they should at least get in contact with you and arrange a date.

Do not give up, ring them up, contact the organisers again and if all else fails contact the trading standards as the company is failing to meet the their promise stated on your ticket.

I could be wrong so do not take this as the truth, but if you purchased something and did not recieve the goods then this would be against the trades descriptions act or the sales of goods act; but I am not sure about goods won in a raffle, unless that came under the gambling act[sm=scratchchin.gif]

Any way do not give up on your prize.

Phone up again, leave a message saying you'd like to talk to them about booking a course of 10 treatments and then when the do finally call back, tackle them about your free prize.

I agree with the other comments.
I would call them again and the organisers. I feel it is also the organiser’s responsibility to make sure you get your prize. You purchased the raffle ticket in good faith and it should be honoured.

I got caught out like this a few years ago. [] I bought raffle tickets at the door of a health fair, and one of the prizes was a treatment of my choice at a local spa. The tickets were drawn at the close of the fair, and I won the spa 'treatment'. I was handed a voucher to take to the spa, and the wording said that the winner was to claim the prize within 14 days. I rang the next morning and was told that the treatment I had selected was fully booked until about 3 weeks time (yeah, right!) and would I consider some other options - a manicure, pedicure or lower leg waxing. I should have held out for what I really wanted, and since I have very short finger nails (therapist, don't you know!) and non-existant toe nails I opted for the leg wax. I was in the building for about 15 minutes, and treated by a very grumpy individual. The spa was particularly quiet - obviously busy dealing with the onslaught of bookings for the therapy I wanted (which was Hot Stones, by the way!)
When I enter raffles nowadays, I opt for the liquid prizes!!!

I took the advice you all gave and phoned again. It was the answering machine again and I left another message but this time they phoned back to ask what treatment I would like for my prize! I was ready to give up so a big thanks for encouraging me to go for what I had won fair and square.

Thought I would update you on this one. So much for me thinking it was all sorted out because they had finally phoned back and we'd made an appointment.

Well I went along for my free treatment this morning and guess what - no-one was in! I rang the doorbell several times and hung around for 10 minutes but there was no sign of anyone.

I have e-mailed the organisers of the show to let them know about this. There is obviously a need for someone to speak to the company offering the prize. This is a truly terrible way to treat clients.

One more bit of advice: you've done what you can. Now it's probably time to put it b ehind you and move on.
I say this because I used to be the kind of person who would chew this sort of thing over for ages, literally letting it poison me as I mulled over the nasty things I would like to do to the people involved (I'm not saying you're doing this BTW) but one very important lesson I've learned over the past few years is to let things go. And recently I've learned to send blessings to people who do 'wrong' by me. (I sent a blessing last night to the bus driver who put his foot down and sailed past as I was running to the stop! And then realised that it would do me good to walk home anyway!)

How do you send a blessing to someone? Is there any specific wording that you would use?

No - you can say what you like. I usually just say 'bless him/her/them etc' and occasionally expand it according to the circumstances. eg. with the above mentioned bus driver, I said to myself (or rather to God - saame thing ha ha!) 'Ah well blessings on him for helping me to take the decision to walk home and if he's feeling mad and bad and tired at the end of a long working day, then bless him with a good rest and may he be happy.'

Just the sort of hippy dippy airy fairy stuff that makes you feel better and just might make the recipient feel better. (Mind you, it's conditional on you not telling the other person that you're blessing them. It has to be a secret between you and God, and there's no point in feeling pious and holy because you're managing to bless someone whom you secretly feel doesn't deserve it. EVERYONE deserves blessing. EVERYONE is Mother's son or daughter.

Thanks Sunanda, I'll try it. I realised yesterday that there really isn't any point to hanging on to negative energy around a situation. I have tended to do this all my life but can't say its done me any good at all and it certainly hasn't improved anything! Thanks for bringing the idea of blessings to my attention.
