There's the hotel nelson. Thats where i usually stay and its 1 block from the zona. Its on the corner where the arch is and 123 street is located.

Do you have to stay in the ZN?

I'd stay at the Ticuan at 8th and Revolucion. It's a short walk to the Zona, it's new and a quantum leap beyond anything in the ZN, it has heat/AC, nice rooms, and it is safe to leave luggage there.

If you stay in a ZN then do something like bring a hard side suit case together with a cable and bicycle lock so you can chain your suitcase to something stationery in the room.

Hotel Leyva is generally not the first choice for mongers seeking security.
But you are only seeking a secure place for you luggage in LZ - so make one.

All rooms in the newer wing of Leyva have small closets that have standard doors with doorknobs. Just bring your own locking doorknob with a screwdriver so you can install it on the closet door.

This time of year you don't need air conditioning.

Of the two, I would recommend Hacienda de Santiago. But if you were going to bring chicas from the Zona, Cascadas might be a better idea. I like Hotel Espaٌa on Revolucion between 3rd and 4th. It is just a few shorts blocks and is very quiet and clean.

HDS definitely does not have air...a ceiling fan though....you won't need AC right now, but somewhere down the road it is not nice without it. I doubt Cascadas has it but I don't know....someone else can verify that.

I don't know that HDS is any safer.....the immediate area around it is a bit sketchy at night...the alley next to Hotel Pepe has lots of drug addicts and drug sales going on. The Cascadas normally will be loud at night from music from the adjacent bars and drunk chicas running around.

Someone may have an idea for your laptop....it definitely would be attractive to some of the folks in the Zona...I would doubt you would have to worry about your clothes.

If you can get away without your lap top it could be best to leave it at the border in your truck if you have a rental car. You can get computer access dirt cheap all over TJ. Your phone can be with you at all time in your pocket so it won't get messed with. Most folks get US signal in the Zona Norte....maybe not in the bars, but outside on the street they do.

Hi,
I will be staying in TJ for 2 nights before business in San Diego. I will be arriving late my first night around 9/10pm. From what I can gather it seems that Cascadas and Santiago may be my safest bets? What concerns me is that I may have to bring my luggage with me as my SD hotel isn't booked until the 3rd night, so I may not have any place to leave it. Not that I'll have any thing too valuable other than my clothes, laptop & smartphone. I read that in most hotels in La Zona, do not expect to see your belongings left alone in the room? From what I can see, Santiago looks to be the safest Hotel in La Zona. Or am I totally wrong? How do these two compare to each other as safety and cleanliness is concerned? Any suggestions or ideas? Do any have A/C?
