G'day all,
My first post but a long time forum user on other sites. I am heading to Patong on October 17 with 7 other guys. I am an experienced traveler and partier but there are a couple of virgins on the trip so wondered if I could ask a few questions. I have looked at the posts on here many times and asked the other guys to look as well as there is certainly some good info. I will pass on all the info to them, I am the leader of the group so I was given the task of doing all the dirty work!

1. What are the best bars to go to in Patong where you can meet other girls on holidays (not locals) that are there for the same reason, to party, have a great time and maybe find someone to go home with at the end of the night? Some of the guys will certainly find some of the local girls appealing and are happy to pay but there are also some that would prefer use their wit and charm to woo a girl!!

2. I read that most of the bars close at 2am, is that a regular thing or just something the police try to enforce now and again? If this is the case where do you go after that time?

3. Is it necessary to get an International license to hire/ride a Scooter?

4. Is the exchange rate at the airport similar to in town?

It might be interesting to go the full moon party in Koh Phangan (you can reach it via Koh Samui) if you want to meet non thai girls.

Big rave with more than 5000 people from all around the world.... you can give it a try and rates for flights with air asia aren't expensive at all.

Most bars close indeed at two - two thirty but you can head on to the discos

I think exchange rates in the airport are similar if you withdraw with you card at an atm - if you go to an exchange office it is quite obviously you pay more.

No, to hire just have a passport,
The police may want to see a license if you are stopped, and you will be..
A car license will pass most of the time, legally you need an international.

Always wear a helmet, even if you are already ugly.. most thai's including bar girls have multiple motorbike scars.
Ride slowly and sober, holidaying in bandages/on crutches is no fun.

Head to Rock City(Beach rd) on the Friday night you arrive where you’re bound to meet a lot of people, Rock City 2 located just near the infamous Bangla rd is a good a little later in the evening (yes I’ll admit I have an interest in the place but I really do think you will enjoy it). Also good are Club Lime and Scruffy Murphy’s.…Seduction and the other disco’s are ok but I think to meet and actually have a conversation with girls enabling you to “use your wit and charm to woo them” the venues I’ve mentioned are more conducive. 2. This is a regular thing and most bars comply. One of the bars I’ve mentioned won’t close until the police are very persuasive…as someone else mentioned there are plenty of disco’s open all night.

Not yet. At the moment your Australian Driver’s License will be accepted by the Patong police. Make sure you carry it with you and always wear a helmet.4. Is the exchange rate at the airport similar to in town?
I’m not really sure, I would imagine the airport is not the best place to exchange a lot of cash but you could get a small amount to get you into town.

Airport exchange rates in Thailand are normally just as good as the street rates.

Air asia do not fly to Koh Samui you can only fly with Bangkok Airways :: Asia Air Travel, Airlines, Flights, Samui Thailand or Thai Airways International : Airline Ticket Reservations to fly there.

The Aussie season seems to be over and I dont expect to see many until next low season (winter time) in Australia. Phuket is very quiet at the moment.

I believe if you want girls other than thai girls then go to their respective countries. Thailand has more then enough sexy ladies to keep you occupied.
The exchange rates between places vary day to day.
The international drivers liscence is easy to get in only 10 min from RACQ.

if you are young and fit into the nightclub scene at home you will find Seduction + Lime in Patong are good places to party.....pretty young international hip crowd...
