Funny Odor - Biotone Dual Purpose Cream

I have been using the cream for a long time, recently I have noticed that I get an odor of formaldahyde after it is applied to the skin and makes me sneeze violently. I buy it by the gallon then put it into the tube, so I dumped out what was in the tube I was using since the gallon smelled ok, even after washing our the tube it still reeked of the odor. I am definitely now thinking of switching to some other cream, but I like the consistancy of this cream. I don't know if it is just this gallon, or it is me getting sensitive to it.

One of my co-workers developed a sensitivity after using the Advanced Therapy Creme for many, many years. She switched to the new Soothing Massage Butter and no longer has a problem.

I've used Biotone for over 14 years now and have never had any problems, but I'm one of those who's constantly switching to the latest product by them so perhaps that's why. I've never stayed with any one particular version. I'm also currently using the Soothing Butter and I just love it! Of course I said the same thing about the Advanced Therapy and the Herbal Select and the Nutura-Naturals when they 1st came out.



Try switching to something else for a while. Perhaps over time, you can go back to the Dual Purpose but for now maybe it's time for a change?

Was this the one with carrot seed and somethng else? I thought it had an odd smell and even more odd consistency. I was given a gallon and used it, but it soaked in so fast...used so much of it I didn't consider buying it.

Yes, it's the one with carrot and avocado oils. There is a scent which is from the carrot and avocado, but I kinda liked it....not too overpowering and not "flowery" smelling. I never had any problems with consistency. I know the lotions just get "sucked" up by the skin, so that's why I stick with creme.

The one I'm using now (Soothing Butter) is unscented and very thick. A little goes a long way.

Not saying your claim is false, just not read of mass complaints myself, nor had any personal or friend reactions to the stuff. "Many Reports" is a pretty serious claim in my book.

i love biotone products and have never had a problem with any of them and have been using them daily for over 5 years. i used to use dual purpose cream. i used it for about 1 year then i switched to nutri-naturals creme and i totally love it. i've been using it for over 4 years and have only had 1 gallon that i wasn't 100% pleased with (was not same consistency as usual).

how old is your container? could you buy a new one as use it to see if it happens? maybe it's the plastic of the old container?

a friend of mine mixes dual purpose and nutri-naturals together in one container. maybe you could try that to get more of the consistency that you're looking for.

Count me in on the list of practitioners that can no longer use biotone cremes' - it was the dual purpose creme, used it for about a year before I developed a rash on my upper arm (where I'd keep 'extra' creme while working) and between my fingers. I am now allergic to most cremes & lotions, not sure if it's the parabens or what, but I can only use oil when I work.

HMMm Makes me wonder, I have noticed lately after I do a massage I have a tad bit of a rash but it goes away after about an hour or so. Its only from my elbows to my finger tips....and we use the Biotone gel.

Rash smash. I DO NOT use biotone and my arms get rashy. It seems to have no rhyme or reason. I thought it was soaps and changed soaps. Then it happen again. I use jojoba and have a lot of varieties of different EO I use. What I need to do is start a diary of oils I use.

Might be dietary too, GL . . . a less appealing possibility, but might be worth a look. Wheat and dairy seem to be doing it to a lot of people these days (I hardly dare mention dairy to a Wisconsin gal!).

I doubt it is diet. When I have it, it is only on my arms but not my hands so much. It runs from my wrist on up and just above my elbow. It is primarily on the parts of my arms that come in contact with a clients skin, so friction is playing a part. It gets better on the weekends when I work less. Good lotion makes it go away quickly, in a matter of hours. I primarily use Gold Bond Ultimate.

I've tried their lotions, and like them. It is what I'll be buying when I'm out of what I currently have.

One of my favorite lotions is zen organics. Goes on creamy soft and doesn't soak in too fast. Totally natural, clients like it too.

That being said I'm finding myself using jojoba oil a lot lately. Just like the way it goes on and doesn't soak in too much. Three cheers for jojoba

Also the name jojoba sounds spiritual to me.

Perhaps what you had in that little tube had gone rancid. If it still smells inside the tube, it is because the smell has been absorbed into the plastic. Polyethylene plastics will absorb odors while Polypropylene will not.

I know a couple people who fit this bill...one of whom posts on this site... so add at least two to the "many reports" claim!

I use BioTone's Nutri-Natural Creme and LOVE the consistency and the smell's quite subtle and pleasant. I'm going to try to make my own cream and hopefully eventually phase out the commercially preserved stuff, but I'm using the Nutri-Natural Creme as my goal consistency! I'll probably keep some around as a back up, too, since a preservative free creme will require small batches...

I used to use the Biotone lotion, and my hands broke out in a rash, and were itchy beyond belief. I stopped using it, and haven't had it happen again. I switched to the biotone gel, it's what I had on hand, and haven't had a single problem with it.

I know with aromatherapy, a person can become sensitized to oils, and get a reaction, I'm sure this is what was happening to me. I threw out the lotion, thought about donating it to someone, but decided I didn't want an rmt to use it on me, so better to just get rid of it.
