Funny situation

This past weekend I had the entire family over for dinner. My nephew excused himself to go to the washroom and as he stood up and started walking towards the loo he turned around and came rushing back to pick up his Iphone, which he had left on the table. He then quickly went to bathroom and was in there for about 20 minutes.

WTF is wrong with the younger generation??

Can one not go to the washroom to USE the washroom for the purpose it was intended for. IS IT necessary to have some kind of computer device EVEN in the washroom?

I will never borrow anyones cell phone to make a call. One never knows where people have taken their phones.:gasp:

Am I just out of the loop, is this normal???

You old timers use to read books, magazines and other reading material but now the young have it all in the palm of their hands. One can now sit in the john with a lap top resting comfortably on their laps while they grunt and groan trying to squeeze out a floating/sinking Oh Henry like object.

As a parent of teens, (I assume he is a teen) I will say its most probable that he had some text history that he didnt want anyone to see.
Not neccessarily a bad thing, but maybe.

I have a friend whos" innocent "teen left their phone on the table when they left the room. A text came, parent picked it up, and they accidentally (so they say)saw the incoming message it was the teens friend saying they( to paraphrase) had bought the drugs but that it had cost more than they thought so the teen owed them more money for their share...and it wasnt "herb"

Not trying to freak you out, it could have been as simple as he didnt want the family to know he likes some girl, or swears on texts, or roots for the leafs.....

when he hit the loo, he was probably texting friends these kids seem addicted.

Yeah it is the norm now to be using your smart phone to browse the net, check your texts or bbm messages while sitting on the throne. I know I do it from work or sometimes even from home. All smart phones now come with wi-fi which make it real easy to get online.

I'd hazard to say that he didn't want anyone playing with his phone.....

Depending on how old he/they are, if I had a kid and I provided the cellphone and the service one of the conditions would be that I had access to it......

It's amazing to see most teenagers carrying either a blackberry or an Iphone when you consider that most have to be on a smart plan which if i'm not mistaken run about $60 a month. I guess Mommy and Daddy must be flipping the bill.

There are family share plans that cut down the cost dramatically. Unlike in the US where I saw you can get unlimited N.A. text, talk and data for $14.95 a month.....(don't know if the data part was unlimited but data was included).

Sorry, any parent that foots the bill for a kid's smart phone is a sucker......I'd supply my kid with the cheapest PHONE available with 10 minutes on it. If they wanted anything better or more air time? They can pay for it.....and this would only be until they were 16. After that? They're off my plan.

I can see you've never had kids. Trust me bro, I said the same thing and it started out with a cheap phone and basic plan. Then as they get older the nagging starts. Dad everyone else has this, Dad why do I have to look like the poor kid in school, DAD I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME, on and on and on like a wood pecker firmly seated on your shoulder and pecking at your temple UNTIL you finally say OK I GIVE UP FUCK IT and call Rogers or Bell the very next minute and upgrade their phones.

I think I managed to nip this in the bud.
When they started nagging for phones I said ok, good report card = phone. But Im raising your allowance 10 bucks, buy whatever plan you want, but the cost, and your overages, You pay for.....

It was funny ...my daughter would basically fit war and peace into a single text when she had a pay as u go plan, and when she was still paying for incoming texts would get mad at her friends for just sending a smilie face or whatever. It showed them how meaningless most text messaging between tweens was.

OK then they got unlimited plans and were just like any other text crazy kid.

I should point out I may have been tough on this but I think im jello on everything else lol

I can see your point, really. But (a big huge mega chunky lovin' hair and all butt), I was the same when I was a kid, only it was a $1.00 toy. KNow what happened when I squawked once too often? WHACK. When I came 'round I forgot what I was squawking for......It didn't take long before I learned just how far to push it....usually it was when my mother or father said NO as opposed to no.....A lot of the times they'd say: ok, you want x? well you can have either x or y, what's it going to be? With a cell phone plan? it'd be: you want food or a cell phone? Or new running shoes or a cell phone?

BTW: I got my first job when I was 12 and never looked back since.

I think, not being a parent mind you, that is the problem today. Kids want want want but aren't willing to go out and earn the money to get get get. I know a whole bunch of high school kids who went through to grade 12 without ever having a job. When I was a kid? EVERYONE had a part time job.....

Now I know I know, all our parents had it rougher than we did, and all that. But considering the shear number of "products" kids want these days? The cost is astronomical. No wonder so many parents have big money problems......

and sorry, you're wrong, technology hasn't taken over our lives, stupidity has.....and it is also the part that's responsible for our personal safety.

Like that girl last summer who was run over by a dumb truck while texting. She walked right off the curb into it's path.....

Now I don't know for sure, but I bet the woman in the video went right back to texting and walking.......

Holly crap that was funny...but as I think about it in different circumstances it could have been tragic as TBOY said.

I have seen my daughter bump into a wall texting.

Oh and to clarify, when I gave them the allowance raise they got extra chores to go with it.
My eldest is a pretty good housekeeper now on her own, the younger is still fighting it lol.

LOL scotty just gave me an idea:

You go to your son or daughter: you want a smartphone? You want to be able to text? Ok, here's your phone and it's glued to the side of a hockey helmet. The only way for it to work is if the helmet is on.

When all the whining starts show them all these videos and say: That's the way it is, I'm not going to get a call in the middle of the day because you walked off the side of a cliff or into the side of a building and broke your head....
