Ok, i'm having a situation with a client. It is a long story but I would love someone's opinion. Oh i'm in Ohio if that helps anything.
I had my own place downtown for a few months. It wasn't working out so i moved into my home. I have a room set up in my house, very professional, blah blah blah. Well while I was in the shop downtown I had a lady buy 4 gift certificates for mother's day. One of the g.c. was redeemed while I was still in the shop downtown, so there are still 3 g.c. from that purchase to be redeemed. The purchaser emailed me about a week ago demanding a refund (of more than she paid total) for the g.c. since I was out of business. I responded and told her I am not out of business and explained the move and told her to have the other g.c call me to get an appointment. Few days later she emails me again saying that the g.c. people are uncomfortable coming to a stranger person's house or having a strange person come to their home ( i do in home too) and she still wants a refund. G.C. are non refundable or redeemable for cash is clearly stated on my website. I tell her ok, mail me the 3 g.c. that have not been redeemed and I will mail you a check. She says she only has two cause the other was thrown away since i am not in business (i am and have told her countless times) and is still demanding a refund of all three. I don't feel i have done anything wrong, and am going above and beyond what i need to do by refunding her for the g.c. she can give back to me. But i am not comfortable giving her money for g.c. she does not give back.
I would like to get some opinions. Is there a law that says they can get their money back? The only law I can find is your g.c. can't have less than a 2 year exp date. Should i give her money back for the g.c. she doesn't provide? Ahhhhhh, she has been so rude and so nasty, very demanding (all via email). And i do not want my business bad mouthed but I also have to stand my ground. Grrrrr. Sorry so long, thank you!!
