Instead of always going to the bars/MPs, do any of you guys that live in CR have any girls come over to your house/apt?

I'm about to relocate to CR in about 8 months.

Another question... I really don't want to live in SJ... I'd rather be close to the coast. How plentiful is the talent outside of SJ - is the profession widespread throughout CR?

I've actually never been to CR (my first trip on March 3 to March 13), but I just know it is the place for me based on a lot of different things. I've felt this way about CR for the last 2 years and finally decided to put my plan in action.

First;
I always wanted to live on the coast.
In fact I bought property there 25 years ago.
The weather is so much better (temp and humidity) in the mountains that it is a no brainer for me.
When in Costa Rica I live in Escazu. That is a suburb of San Jose. Year round temp rarely exceeds 80, and the humidity is great.
It's about 2 hours to the coast by car.
Girls to come to you?
Oh, yes. All you want. I hardly go to the gulch anymore. When I do go there to connect I get her number if she is any good.

Most gringos who live in CR go to San Jose bars for the same reason they went to bars where they lived in the States, to have a few drinks, BS or watch sports with the guys.
When you have been here awhile you have a list of phone numbers and if you forget to call one of them she will call you. It is called "dialing for dollars"

That is most likely one of the most dangerous statements I have read on this board. Would suggest you make not a 10 day visit before you implement a plan to move here but more like 10 LONG trips and then decide.

I couldn't agree more. I was thinking the same thing when I first read his post. I concur that about 10 trips would be advisable before deciding to
move to CR. For many people, it's like the old saying "It's a nice place to
visit, but I wouldn't want to live there". He should read Mexpat's excellent
posts on his experience moving to and residing in CR. They were and still are some of the best posts EVER on this website. (Whatever happened to Mexpat?)

Okay Guys

I figured that I'd get the response that I got from the "I just know it is for me" remark. I've told a few friends about my plans - everyone says how do you know? They think I'm crazy too so I'm used to it guys.

Okay, even if I hate CR, let's just say CR sucks in my opinion, I'll then go to Rio or Mexico or even Asia. You guys don't know how tired I am of the states - I'm fed up in a big way. The states, to me, is the same old thing duplicated in every city - sears, mcdonalds, freakin' walmart, burger king and more. Anyone ever wondered why they build these big cities where all the traffic in the morning is going to the same place and in the evening going back? Ever looked on the other side of the highway driving to work.... nothing much over there!!! Stupid! I could go on and on and on.

I'm only 42 so no matter if I end up back in the states 3 years from now... no biggie... I think the experience going to CR, Mexico, Rio or Asia will be worth it. I'm not going to buy property right off the bang so I'll be able to revert.

I'm coming down there March 3rd to 13th - anyone need anything from the states? You'll have to put the $$$$ in my paypal account. I know this is my first/second posting and no one has met me, however my ebay ID is the same as on here so check my rating there for the trust factor.

Can anyone help or suggest a girl to accompany me to the beach? I want to spend a few nights in SJ for the fun at BM and ZB and Kular and then I want to go to the beach with company. I've read that getting a driver is better than renting, can anyone suggest a driver?

One other thing - should I book at the Presidente now or just walk in on the 3rd?

I agree with the opinion to visit a place many times before moving there, but for me I didn't do it that way. I am living here on a work assignment, and I came down cold one day, and have been here now for 2 years. I didn't know a word of spanish, so that was probably the hardest part in the beginning.

Dwayne, I suggest you hook up with some people that are very familiar with the "rest" of the country, and try to stay away from both the tourist spots, and the mongering locations if you are indeed serious about living here. I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy those areas as well, I'm just saying you should get a very good look around while you have the time. I think you would get a warped perspective of Costa Rica if you only took that area into consideration.

Before moving to any Spanish speaking country, I'm stopping in Guatemala (Antiqua) for about 4 or more weeks (whatever it takes) to learn Spanish. I have a friend that did the same - 110 for 7 hours of Spanish a day and it includes a room and food.

I had planned or was thinking that when I come there to live, I'd pick a place where English is hard to come by at first (take the occasional trip to SJ or who knows some local might like a well off American). I don't need to get laid 7 days a week if I'm living there - I'll not be under any time limits so I will take the girls with ease (unlike those coming for 7 or 10 days).

After I get the Spanish down, I'll feel more comfortable being around Gringos.

I moved down here after one 2 week visit. HOWEVER... I brought nothing with me but 2 suitcases and I did not burn any bridges at (my ex) home. I think you can only get the feel down here by being here a lot and I also thing that short trips tend to distort your views, no matter how many you make. I will not mention any names (you know who you are) but guys come down here and do an incredible number of girls in a long weekend or a week or even two. But I find that even though I enjoy the 'scene' I am not out every night and am not taking 3 girls back with me every night. It's not in my budget, for one thing, and I don't produce that much leche nowadays.

Also, as for a 3 or 4 week course being enough for you to speak Spanish, it is a good start, but don't K*D yourself. I did that, then I did a semester in college then came down here (8 months and counting) and though I can communicate, I am so far from fluent it's pathetic. (by the way, I was pretty much the best student in either class, so it's not just that I'm dumb or bad with languages).

Don't let my warning stop you, not at all. I say go for it but keep a line of retreat open for yourself. You may never learn to love gallo pinto. I haven't.

Make a mistake

If coming to CR turns out to be a mistake, it won't be the last mistake I'll make in life. It isn't how many mistakes you make in life that gets you down, it is more related to how big each mistake is.... coming to CR isn't something I can't recover from.

At first, I was going to sell one of my houses before leaving, however now I'm thinking that I'll rent it since real estate performs way better than the stock market in California.

Yes I would get a reservation somewhere before you arrive so the taxi driver will not redirect you to the hotel which gives him a kickback like the Balmoral.

Finding a beach companion is very difficult and personal.
There are many factors to consider. First can you communicate?
If you do not speak Spanish she better speak some English.
Do you smoke or does she?
Drink a lot?
Sleep late or get up early?
Does she have a nanny to watch her rugrats?

They expect $100 a day plus room and food.
Most like to be taken to the disco to dance. Do you dance?

Naturally you have to buy them some beach wear.

Can you trust her not to steal your wallet in the middle of your being asleep and take the bus back to San Jose.

You better get to know someone real well before inviting them on a beach trip for more than one day in my experience.
