Hi fellas, just discovered this site. Planning a trip to CR in March with 3 of my single buddies. Not looking for the party scene of San Jose or Jaco, but definitely want some female companionship. We are staying at the doubletree resort in Puntarenas. What can you guys tell me about available female companionship in that area?

Sorry amigo but you are going to be in the WRONG PLACE to find many, if any chicas, even fat, old, ugly ones. Only MPs are strickly low rent Tico places that are so far off the beaten path you would never find them. Only hope would be to hook up with a chica on the beach (espanol, game, youth, and good looks required in almost every case).

In Puntarenas, there are a couple with girls, including the Green Door, if it's still open.

Warning: Puntarenas is a dirty and crime-riddn port town, whose main attraction is the tourist pier and some deep sea fishing opportunities.

DannyBoy42: If you want a nice beach town (with or without chicas) you have numerous choices, depending on your interests. The Flamingo Beach area, Pan de Auzucar, Malpais and Samara all cometo mind.

For an option fairly close (a relative term) to San Jose, you might try Manuel Antonio. It features C.R.'s first national park and some wonderful beaches. There is some play for pay in nearby Quepos ("El Pescador" and maybe Wacky Wanda's). Be sure to cheeck the girls' I.D.'s ("Sedulas") to make sure she's legal (over 18 years of age).

For a less-developed Caribbean beach, many people really like Puerto Viejo and area. Laid-back, rustic and really nice...but B.Y.O. girls.

I have a friend who lived close by for years and was a frequent visitor to Puntarenas. He tells me there is 'action' available there though not high-rent type girls. I trust his judgment though I haven't been there myself. If you speak Spanish and aren't afraid of mixing with locals, I think you could find some companionship there no problem. If you're staying at the Doubletree, I suspect you'll find the scene a little dicey. But maybe not. Report back, please.

I've stayed at the DoubleTree many times. Very important you understand it's a "family type place". Would not recommend you take Chicas to the resort. I did and it was not comfortable for two reasons. One the Ticos and their wives don't like it. You will get lot's of looks. Two and perhaps the most important reason.....my Chica did not know how to behave at an all inclusive resort and ended up drinking herself stupid and passing out for 12 hours. LOL. Trust me I got the best end of the deal when all was said and done.

Read and heed. March is along time from now. Find a better locale in CR. Tamarindo.....most any beach in Guanacaste, Volcanoes etc.....Not Puntarenas.."point of dirty sand".

Try researching Quepos. It's a distance from the main beach "action" in Jaco, but if it's fishing, etc. you're going for with some action, ther've been good reports of it. Might try http://www.tripadvisor.com for just the eco-tourism stuff then bounce more-direct questions here. One benefit of Quepos--there's direct air service from San Jose via NatureAir, if y'all are up for the price--with 4 of you, consider hiring a van.
SOFT PITCH: If you get a "thing" for CR and decide to come back (and I have confidence you will), consider paid membership here. The discounts on hotels and restaurants alone will pay for it.

Puntarenas is a dump...Full of drunks...most places rip off gringos......many pickpockets.....mostly a tico vacation place. Beach is disgusting.

Low rent MP...Hambergo's.


Take the advice hit Quepos or elsewhere, hell, even Jaco(the lesser of two dumps)

Go to Jaco and fish out of Los Suenos.

Brother Buzzfla has given 9/10's of a good idea. Los Suenos is not, I don't believe, Chica-friendly and there aren't any MP's in the Jaco area (none mentioned definitively here), so what do you do? All 4 throw in a little money to rent a "phuck-pad" in Jaco that all can use. I like the way Blue Palms looks ( http://www.blue-palms.net ) and it was mentioned by Thirdworld in this link

Also mentioned in that link were the Hotel RobleMar (across the street from the BB) and Clarita's Beachfront Hotel. But you'll come up with something. Best of both worlds. Just a thought...

In Puntarenas if you walk from the San Jose bus station toward the market. There is a soda on the left side that has black tile on the floor and up the wall. I think the name is soda janet. There is a door in the back and a bar at nite. I was eating at noon tuesday with a friend and a couple slithered from the back door but they were read, and so was I but I had to pass because of my company. I would hve done either one of them. Teh food is also good.
