Ok guys... I am sorry for the roller coaster ride of my closing the shop, not closin. I have felt like a yo-yo these past months, but I finally took decisive action to get out from under this overhead and go mobile. I have already posted in the local paper a closing date so outstanding certifciate holders can come in and have also sent letters to the clients I want to keep for mobile massage. The lady next door to my current shop has a facial room that she no longer uses and has offered use of that room once a month for a free massage. That should work out well for the few clients who don't want me to come to their house (2 of them thus far) Everyone else is very excited about the idea. I am looking into the possibility of my son working from that same room to take the overflow of people I can't get to in a day's time. We will see how it goes...

I have been working as a mobile massage therapist for several years now and I love it. The main "perk" for my situation is having the ability to see less clients a week because people who want mobile massage pay more for that convenience.

Good luck with the shift in your practice, it will be fun to hear how you are doing with it.

One thing I have noticed already with the few mobile clients I have, is they are more verbal in their wants as that is their home and I am on their turf. I do find the shift in surroundings has the potential to 'throw me off'. I have to work harder to remain focused as it 'feels' different. I am such a creature of habit. This is definately going to be an adventure for me, but one I am looking forward to.

Sandra, you will adjust quickly-- I remember feeling that way, espeically in the homes where the "floor plan" kept changing. Now I am at the point I literally can close my mind to everything and focus on the client, just like it's my own personal space. My all time favorite space is the teeny tiny room where the dog comes in and fights me for the floor space.. I really would love to see a video of my trying to get him to move or my straddling him so I don't draw attention to the fact that he won't move... hysterical!!
I think the worst part was when the clients wouldn't clear the sidewalks of ice/snow, or the ones that wanted me to horse my equipment up steep stairs/ etc.
I have learned to take care of myself and nicely request a compromise. And while mine all have tables I still need to set them up in a few homes and have the set up down to a real science and then there's the breaking down -- adjusting my music and the room temp.. I know I am repeating myself but it really does get easier!!

Thanks!!! I had another appt yesterday that was very nice. Set up by french doors with hummingbirds flitter-fluttering outside. We both enjoyed her session.

I hope I don't end up with any pet stories to tell. I especially don't like cats rubbing against my legs. But, I know that comes with the territory. This might even make a cat person out of me. lol

One thing that may help you like an area-cat better. They are deeply influenced by Chi. So, if you've got some good energy going during a massage, they will react by coming near.

Ha.. At my last appointment, towards the end of the massage, her cat came out from under the bed and scared me (I didn't even know she was in there) and when I jumped out of my skin, she flew back under the bed. lol

In our experience, dogs and horses are also what Dh calls "Qi hogs".
