GREENBURGH - Two local spas were raided Friday with police charging four individuals with acting as massage therapists without required licenses.
Jade Spa, at 698 South Central Ave. and Charming Spa, 390 South Central Ave., both in Scarsdale, were raided Friday by the Greenburgh Police Drug and Alcohol Task Force, Detective Division and Street Crime Unit after what a release from Town Supervisor Paul Feinerโs office called โa short-term investigation.โ
Last year 11 people were arrested when police raided six massage parlors, including the Charming Spa and what was then called Aroma Spa, also located at 698 South Central Ave.

THE LAW CHANGES: Greenburgh regulating massage parlors
The four individuals arrested Friday were charged with unauthorized practice of a profession, a class E felony, police alleging that they โdid knowingly and unlawfully purport themselves as licensed massage therapists without having the requisite state licenses,โ Feinerโs release said.
Last year, Greenburghโs town board unanimously approved legislation that allows officials to permanently shutter establishments that continually employ unlicensed masseuses.
All massage businesses must apply to the town for a license. Police can then check whether the owner hires state-licensed massage therapists. Owners then must obtain a special permit to comply with the zoning code.
All four individuals arrested were released on bail.
