Has it gone quiet in the discos?

"The big story of the moment is all about noise. This latest wrinkle arrived after the King’s birthday speech during which he suggested that today’s youth did not listen because they spent so much time soaking up loud music in discos. The kicker was he wondered what Mr T’s excuse for not listening was! However up pops Deputy PM Prurachai, now lurking in the corridors of the health ministry, and he says the ancient military law limiting sound to 90 decibels must be adhered to…and within 5 days! Of course disco owners throughout the Kingdom are up in arms. There are several problems for them with this new fuss, not the least of which is that they have no way of measuring noise output, nor do they know exactly how or where it should be measured! Next to the speakers, from the middle of the dance floor (different when full/empty) etc? And how can you dance to techno if there is no dominant beat…and so on. I noted that the Full Moon party people quickly said they were all right because they are outside. Does that mean all discos are now going to move into the streets with the bars?"

Well the most annoying racket \I have ever heard was spilling forth from the new boxing ring (old Shark / Star wars / Star Wold / Etc).. The normal (but brief) sound of pipes and announcer that you would cringe at, as a sound truck passed was being played non stop from low quality speakers just outside the venue.. Flat out discordant noise..

Noise - mai pen rai !!!

''The Ministry of the Interior has announced that, from Saturday, officials will be monitoring the volume of noise emanating from entertainment venues, and checking that venues are adequately ventilated, as part of a nationwide clean up.

K. Romin explained, “Noise must not exceed 91 decibels, while the venue should be properly lit and ventilated, and there should be proper emergency exits, too.”

He said those who infringe the regulations will be fined 100 baht.''

From Phuket Gazette ...... 100 Baht .....one beer !!!! What a laughable load of nonsense.... and in same article ....

“The 253rd declaration of 1972 Revolutionary Council states that shops having liquor licenses are allowed to sell alcohol only between 11 am and 2 pm and 5 pm and midnight.”

“Members of the public who report a shop that is found to be breaking the law can expect to receive a bounty of up to 30% of the fine levied on the shop, and that has been an incentive for people to report shopkeepers to us.”

So if you get short of a few satang you know what to do!!!
