Hashimoto's disease

I am supposed to see a client next week who said she has Hashimoto's. I am not sure what this is and am currently researching it. Thought I'd check the board too to see if anyone has had experience with it and had some tips for me. Just talked to her so I really don't even know if massage is contraindicated for this yet. She did say she has had Reflexology done int he past and like that, but I don't have training in that yet and told her so. If I need to, guess I will refer her out...

I have a client w/Hashimoto's; she & her docs (MD and ND both) choose not to treat w/thyroid hormone and she just watches her energy levels. She is a regular client and we have made no adjustments to her tx. She generally prefers light pressure, with just a little bit of trigger-point work in the back.

Hashimoto is a form of hypothyroidism and massage is not contra indicated for it. Some people have a lot of pain that seems like fybromyalgia, but usually when their medication is ajusted the muscular pain gets better.
This disease causes the metabolism to slow down - including the "cleaning out" the body needs to do in the tissues - massage can help that.
