Have you ever heard of 'Peer Massage' ?

My 8 yr old daughter has come home from school today and told me that next week they have a man coming into school to teach them basic massage techniques. The idea is that if they are feeling stressed they can give each other massages??!! I am more than a little bemused by this, obviously I won't be able to ask her teacher what it's all about until Monday. Have you ever heard of this, have your kids ever done it? Wouldn't they be better concentrating on basic education?

My son would be stressed beyond belief at that - I think he'd have a meltdown at the idea of one of the hated goody-two-shoes girls touching him ( he loathes with a burning intensity the girls who put their hands up and volunteer for everything lolol)

I think that's a bit off tbh. I really wouldn't be happy - not because I don't think massage is a good thing, but some kids would find that level of contact hard to deal with, and FFS it's SCHOOL not some holistic centre!

Bloody hell - I used to feel repulsed so much as passing a bean bag or quoit into a boys hand never mind massage...

I think, crank that I am, I probably associate massage with intimacy, so I doubt I'm viewing it objectively

I have never heard of this one but there are many programs now designed to lower stress and address depression in children grades k through 6. This is in response to huge jump of children within these age ranges being diagnosed with these types of issue. Many adults have scoffed at the notion that kids can have these issue bt the reality is, kids are no longer allowed to be kids. Parents tend to be more involved and controlling now then before, the workload has increased in an attempt to improve the education system.(somehow they think more is better as opposed to improving the teaching methods) Kids are scheduled to go from one activity to another and aren't getting the self play using their imaginations anymore. That play is what organizes all that they have seen and heard to link up at a later time with further information. They are addressing the symptoms without addressing the causes. Typical of our system.

My son isn't in school yet, but I have never heard of such a thing.
it doesn't sound right to me at all.
Why would 8 year olds need to message one another let alone why would an 8 year old be stressed?! I would be questioning the teacher about that.
I would not allow some guy to massage my kid either boy or girl at any age!

Despite being an "elderly pair", we have no children for many reasons. However, given the attempts on these pages, I would have thought that more concentration on basic literacy would be welcome.

Sounds "paedo" like to me.
