having a hard time getting out there .....

i am an LMT and also an Equine massage therapist ..... ive been certified for the horses for about 2 months now ....... so exciting for me ......Don Dorans ESM Program in Ocala,FL was great .....definitely plan to go back for other things they offer ....... so to my point ..... ive been handing out cards left and right to all the feed stores and equine vet offices around my area, putting my name in all the local papers and still nothing ...... i am completely willing to do a free massage just to show the horses owner what great results you can get from very non invasive work .....but , it has been alot harder getting out there than i expected .... people just arent open to it only because they just dont know ......and its just so much easier to call the vet ...... any suggestions or feed back would be great ... i know it takes time and patients and just getting myself out there to build a business but dam it man..... i like working with people but i really love working with horses , its my passion ...... thanks !!!!

I know this is an 'older' thread (my excuse is I just found this forum last night!), but I wanted to encourage you to hang in there.

My husband went to Don Doran's course in August of 2005, and then in 2006 he went for his "people" license in the State of Texas. So, two and a half years later, here we are. We are still working on building a larger client base, but it *is* working- so much so that both our oldest son (age 17.5) and I are currently in "people" massage school, and at least I, if not both of us, are planning to attend Don's school in the not-too-distant future.

It does take time and perseverance to build a thriving business of any sort. Try not to get discouraged!
