i've thought about this recently. well, i've thought about it before but now i'm highly considering it. i have a client that brings me an apple every time she comes in. i love it! i never eat while i'm in my office. it's such a horrible habit i've gotten used to. well, i gobble up the apple right away and i feel so good after i do. so, i thought it would be nice to offer something like that to them. if i love it so much, wouldn't they? i just wonder how many would take it (whatever is was you had to give them). i think it would be a great idea to have some fruit or a granola bar or maybe a healthy cookie or something ~ maybe even a not-so-healthy cookie for clients more like myself! :twisted: :

i'd imagine it's totally tax deductable (of course don't quote me on that 'cause i'm certainly no expert - gotta love an accountant!)

Actually I've been to a lot of hotels who have a big bowl of apples on their counter in the lobby... I sort of think it's a cheery way to decorate and yummy too for the weary traveler who wants a little snack.
Sure they could get a soda and chips from the vending machine, but there's definitely something to be said for Fresh Food.
I'd think apples would be a lovely thing to try... oranges could get a little messy... but whatever is in season. *shrug*
As as for cookies and stuff... well there is Something to be said for having something to raise the blood sugar... as you never know when a diabetic may be having a reaction to having taken too much insulin.
Not sure on the legalities of being able to deduct it Christine... I think you'd have to ask an accountant about that.

There are these amazing Ayurvedic fruit/granola type bars in the grocery store here... there is nothing in the ingredients list that I would ever apologize for... and I think they taste great. Maybe I'll get some of those for the office too.

Dried fruits, unsalted nuts could work too, especially almonds.

our acct at work (i'm still working full time at a construction company) told me food for employees is 100% deductable, and clients are 50% deductable. the IRS is all for taking care of your employees. companies have abused the client deductables so that's why it's 50%.

i agree, fresh fruit is always good. if you choose to serve other snacks, please make sure they're in individual serving packages for hygiene.

that was a learning experience for one spa i worked at that offered a bowl of pretzels and a bowl of fresh fruits. the health dept was not happy about the pretzels, even if we offered it with tongs.

however, mr. mush worked at a spa the offered morning breakfast pastry, like bran muffins and such. they used tongs.. no problem. t017

I do offer low sugar granola bars, along with a bowl of candy ( their choice!) sometimes I have fruit available, on days I know I will be busy & hopefully the fruit will be taken. I have found that my people like the bottles of water I give out after a massage alot better than a dixie cup for the road.

The healthy angle? Chocked full of anti- oxidants...

Does anyone remember their childhood dentist?? Mine had a treasure box full of toys to choose from after we were finished at the dentist. They were cheap little inexpencive toys and even if I was getting a cavity filled, I couldnt wait to dig through that treasure box. I was very disapointed when my mom started bringing me to a different dentist. : He didnt have a treasure box. Some 27 years later, I cant remember the name of that doctor or what type of work he did on my mouth, but I still remember the treasure chest of toys.

So, if you dont have a goodie basket for your clients, I highly recommend it. People like free and people like food. Put the two together, and you have a wining team. Its a psychological thing.

That sounds good to me. I once did chair massage at a 4th of July festival. Our booth was massage and chocolates.

We have chocolate available in our reception area and I also keep dark chocolate (which is healthier ) in my room as a treat to my clients.

christine, i'm so glad that you revived this thread. i'd forgotten all about this after we moved to our new lcoation! that was in january! :roll:

i've been looking at this and thinking about my current set up and should have the snacks back today or tomorrow.
