Headache/Nauseous/Dizzy When Prone w/no pillow

I have a new client who needs a pillow under his head while lying prone because he gets a headache/nauseous and dizzy if he does not have one. Any ideas as to why? Is there nerve impingement going on? He basically says he does not have a problem with neck pain ,numbness or tingling. :?

I have a client that cannot be reclined very far or she experiences dizziness and nausea too. She's had multiple tests and they think it is an inner ear issue related to her equilibrium. Sometimes she can't even look at the ceiling or watch her hand while reaching for something above her head without getting dizzy, faint and a slight headache. Currently she is on antihistamines and using a nasal spray as it is causing problems with her sinuses as well.

We have had some good results working the shoulders, neck, specifically SCM, and some TMJ work. When he gets regular treatments, he can sleep better, and gets fewer attacks.

Lymphatic also seems to have some good results for Meniere's patients, although Meniere's is a VERY individual disease and results may vary.

Yes Meniere's seems to be more differeing amoung people than other diseases are. My client doesn't seem to fit normal for Meniere's. Dr's will try to activate it, and it won't, he is very atypical. Yet if I do the wrong thing, wrong pressure, wrong technique at the wrong time, I can set him off. not that I try to.

As with most other things, it is getting to know your client, seeing what works, what doesn't, and a willingness to change things up on the fly.

LOL fair enough. I plead lack of massageplanetfeine and an early Saturday morning as my defense for anything I say that doesn't make sense!

I deal with Meniere's patients on a daily basis and get one or two suicide calls a week due to this disease. I hear from people who get attacks once a year and people who have attacks for 21 days straight and end up in the hospital a few weeks a month. They are calling trying to find one answer that works for them but many often spend years trying different things, journaling and discovering what works for them. While 80% find that low sodium diet and diuretics work for them in some form, the rest seem to really struggle finding anything that helps the symptoms. I feel for them!

For what it's worth...I know several local meniere's and vertigo sufferers who have GREAT results from acupuncture!

Vertebral artery test position

Your client might be getting dizzy due to compression and/or stretching of the vertebral artery in the position of cervical extension (without the pillow).

If you do a search for vertebral artery test on google you will find out more.

In any case, they need a more complete neurological workup.
