help at night for a patong-newbie

hi there,

my first trip to phuket is coming closer and maybe i've to go there alone.

i want to book the flight in 1 or 2 days. (nov. 14 - dec. 5 or maybe one week later). i don't know yet in which hotel i'll stay.

i know there are a lot BM's in this time, so i need some ppl which can introduce me to the nightlife there. show me the good bars and discos.....

i've read a lot of threads of going there alone is the best thing you could do. yeah, i believe it. but i'm a little shy and need some time to "come out of me". after some drinks i can talk like a waterfall :

it would be no problem for me to go every night into a bar or disco for a girl. but it would be boring to know there no one and to do there everything alone.

the last 2 times (samui) there were always friends with me and nothing was a problem. i had nearly always someone you can talk with easily. when i've a girl, i really don't need someone else....but the time inbetween it would be nice.

now i'm a little bit afraid of travelling alone the first time to LOS but i think when i've done that it would be no problem for the next time (hopefully in 6 months )

As you have read no problem traveling alone. I like being on my own schedule and not have to worry about others. Just go to MTB and meet up with bms. I am not an outgoing person either, but never had any problems. As said before, you will not be alone on your holiday for long.

I agree with MassMoose.
Do not worry about being by yourself. In many ways it is easier than being in a group, visit MTB and introduce yourself. Visit the bar's and you will soon make friends.
The hotel or guesthouse that you will be staying at may also be a good place to meet other people. I have often sat at my hotel for a beer before going out and ended up talking to other travelers.
Just go and enjoy yourself...

my first trip to los was alone i stayed at sb before i had even booked into my room I meet up with 2 BMs . These 2 guys where always up for a laugh they made my trip. So dont worry lots of guys to catch up with day time have a drink and a laugh . Have a great trip.

put your dates in BMs arrival thread then look at who is going at the same time....if you lkike what they have written on the board and think you'd liker to meet them just drop them a pm beforehand...chances are they'l be there on their own as well...most of us travel solo and meet up at MTB and other BM friends bars like Faulty Towers, Playhouse etc

agree with all above, go to mtb intro yourself to nicke and he will you tell who the bms are at the bar. stay away from nicke's shots though or you will be talking like niagra falls.

You got nothing to worry about mate.... Like others have said just go to the MTB and you'll find plenty of BM's to hang and talk with......

I bet after this time you will always travel alone because there is just so much more freedom to do what you want....

It is YOUR holiday after all...

You will have no problem, no matter how shy you are. As long as you get yourself out of the hotel, you will have a blast!


As someone that is very shy, from personnal experience just turn up at the bars mentioned in the thread and sit down and have a beer. Sooner or later someone will just talk to you, if not, then if you see a face (easy with Nicke, if hes back at MTB by then??) you remember just say high. If you end up playing a game with a girl at MTB, just say your a memeber of the forum and with in seconds she will tell another bm that you are there.

In Faulty towers, it may be more difficult as there are no bg's!


But you will have a blast. :

As everyone else has said, book the flights and come on over. I'm completely new to Thailand, but came over on my own about a week ago for a month and am having a great time. I'm meeting people pretty much any time I sit down for a meal, MTB is a great kicking off point for the evening, and if you're in Patong anywhere around Soi Bangla, finding someone to have a drink with will not be a problem.

I'm in Thailand from 26th November for just over 2 weeks ... a few days on Bangkok, then a week in Pattaya. I'm in Phuket from 7th to 12 December, so if you're around on those dates I'll have a beer with you.

As others have said plenty of times, get yourself down to the Mai Thai Bar in Soi Eric (or 'Soi Elic' as the locals call it!) at about 10pm any evening. I am also a very shy and quiet person, but you're never alone in Thailand - there is always something warm and brown-skinned to help you forget your problems.

I went by MTB last night and asked for Nicke, but the girl told me he was in Sweden for another week.... didn't see any gentlemen there.. just ladies, so i'll swing by again tonight and hope to run into some other BM's
