hi every1 im new here

my dad had a prolapsed disc and had a op in sept last yr but the past month the pain has come back more and worse than ever!

can any1 explain this? i really feel for him as he is moving to france and wanted it to all be sorted![&:]

i have just qualified for my reiki level 2 any1 had a reiki treatment that has helped with this?

Hi Hon,

I really sympathise with you, it's awful seeing someone you love dearly in pain and fear too. My daughter recently had a re-do discectomy just 3 weeks after her first, but seems (fingers and everything else crossed) to be progressing steadily now. The only advice I can give is to refer back to where your dad had his first op and beg/plead for them to do a repeat MRI as it does sound possible that a little more of the disc may have slipped, his symptoms sound pretty much the same as my daughters when her disc "slipped" again. I's still pretty soon after his first op so maybe if it has re-herniated they might be more willing to re-do, my daughter's re-herniated on the saturday and she was operated on the following Wednesday. Good luck and let me know how he goes on, but tell him not to just sit and quietly suffer, he needs another MRI.

well he has to wait till the end of april!!!!!!! i feel so sorry for him even the strongest painkillers arnt working

If I were you, I would make an appointment to a Massage Therapist for your dad. This treatment will help him very much. Find an experience one and ask questions. I believe he will feel a great difference from his pain.

Pleae, keep us up-to-date with his progress.

i had the same problem .i had an op last october and 4 weeks after surgery the l4/5 disc re herniated.i had an mri 5 weeks after the op and this not only showed the re herniated disc but a hell of a lot of fluid and swelling.my surgeon told me to try and wait it out which i did .6 months later i am just back at work .i tried every sort of therapy except osteo an acupuncture.muscle balance physio (pilates) helped me the most.i saw a differance with the core strengthening within weeks.i beleive this is why i had the injury in the first place as my core was very week . i am 32 years old and have done bodybuilding for 15 years so this came as a shock.
i am still in pain but try to not take any meds ,only when really needed.the back pain is worse now than the sciatic leg pain for which i had the original op.
my advice is to speak to martin knight at the spinal foundation.google it.i saw him for a second opinion and he was very undersatnding and proffesional .he scanned me ,nt only lying down but in all sorts of weighted positions to see what really was going on .the trouble with mri is that you are lying down so the spine is not under compression.his diagnostic testing was second to none. it was he ,yes a surgeon who refferd me for the pilates.he said i might need an op but it would be a minimaly invasive procedure that would be done in france.britain is 20 years behind than europe in these procedures.he said that he would not re operate until at least 1 year has passed .this seems a lng time when in pain .think positive and remember it is your mind that is telling you you are in pain so tell your dad to relax and keep his chin up .the operations on the nhs seem to be discectomy and if this fails fusion .the spinal foundation has other options .once you have a fusion that is it what you have got is what you have got so i would seek out all options
