Hip operation - client advice?

I only qualified recently and have started getting clients.A male client is seenig me next week. I know he has pain in his hip as it is damaged and he is due an operation.

I also know he will be asking me how reflexology can help him. What can I say in this case? What would be the best way to explain it? It's this kind of thing I find difficult. I have great feedback on my treatments, but I often get stuck fro words when I have to justify the benefits of the treatment.

I hope someone can help me before next week. This guy is my boss - so I want to get it right!!!!!

Obviously you are taking great care to see that this client is not contra-indicated to treatment.
Benefits for someone like him might be - anti-stress, release from worry, soothing any pain and perhaps after the op (and the ok to resume treatment) assistance with re-alignment of his walking which has litterally 'gone out of step' with his hip diffculties. Regardless of which hip, you are likely to find alignment problems on both feet as a compensatory measure.
Try it and see - let him report his various improvements.

You could point out the benefits of treatment by saying that the pain he's experiencing will be causing him stress= stress causes tension= more pain =more stress=more tension=more pain, if you get the idea!

Reassure him that the treatment will hopefully help him to relax more and be less stressed.Don't forget theaim of reflexology is toachieve homiostasis- internal balance within the body. This will in turn help his body heal itself and aid in his recovery when he has his operation so this is a good time to start regular treatments.

Also check that he's not contraindicated in any way especially after the operation e.g. bruising 'cause if he's off his feet for a while he might be at a smallrisk of blood clots (don't say this to him) [:-]just make sure everything is A OK. This is where the real benefits of pre-treatments will come in because his body will already be used to the treatments so less chance of healing crisis.

Another little tip. I know with just qualifying you'll be sick of case studies, but if I were you I'd treat this as one and write it all up in detail if he intends to continue, with his permission and keep it incase you want to further your education. This one would be an excellent case study!
