Hi, i woul like to know if anyone does reflexology on people with HIV if so what precautions do you take? or is it a no go area with reflexology?

HIV is only spread through body fluids. I'm pretty sure the toes don't emit body fluids, unless they are bleeding! So all your usual precautions apply.

Also, don't forget someone with HIV has a compromised immune system and you really don't want them catching something from you, now do you?!

Believe it or not, HIV is harmless, and AIDS is not contagious - you can't catch it not from reflexology nor from blood or bodily fluids.

AIDS is caused by life style and drugs (prescribed and recreational drugs) according to growing number of researchers including Professor Duisberg, who is an authority on retro-viruses.

There is no real evidence that HIV causes AIDS, Duisberg and others have thousands of cases of people with AIDS but no sign of HIV.

Robert Gallo announced to the world in 1984 that he had discovered the cause of the unknown disease AIDS after examining a tissue sample sent to him by the Pasteur Institute, who were examining an AIDS related death.

In actual fact, Gallo never proved causality, and the Pasteur Institute later confirmed that whatever he found in the tissue sample did not cause the death of the patient, and Gallo was also later convicted of felony.

I would refute that VERY strongly, and say that such claims are very dangerous. I won't go further until I have seen some good research to back up your argument, published and peer reviewed in good quality journals.

As for the original question. Unless both you and your patient have cuts on your hands, their feet; then you should be fine. However, wearing latex gloves would be a sensible precaution on the principal of better safe than sorry; and won't cause offence either. I would recommend the same precaution for any patient with a known blood-born pathogen, such as Hepatitis etc.

If HIV is caused by lifestyle and drugs, how does this explain the pandemic in Africa, India etc where drugs are not taken, and their diet is healthy?

You are being very irresponsible and downright dangerous when you say that HIV is harmless - I am sure if the research of Professor Duisberg were true - we would have all heard of his name by now.

Why don't you do some research and see for yourself?

Just type "Aids Fraud" or "AIDS hoax" in google and it will give you some good starting pages. There is a good video (HIV=AIDS, Fact or Fraud?" that you can download for £1 too.

BTW: I used to work at the Health Education Authority in the late 1980's, who produced those frightening Aids adverts by the Thather Government - none of it was based on any science.

sorry, I thought I asked for reputable sources, in peer reviewed journal - you know, scientific research; not people with axes to grind, or horror stories from 20+ years ago.

By the way, I'm not the one making outrageous claims. My knowledge of AIDS & HIV comes from scientific study conducted over many years and published in said peer review, reputable journals; medical text books etc. You're the one challenging perceived medical wisdom, it's for you to push your evidence, not me

This has to be one of the scarest things I have ever read. Oh dear me.

Anyway, back on topic. Froggy, there is absolutely no reason why you would not treat someone who is HIV positive. As long as there are no open wounds on their feet, you are fine.
You should view each and every client you treat as a potential source of infection, regardless of whether it be by HIV, Hepatitis or the common cold. Universal precautions should be followed regardless of someone's HIV status.
Anyway, you are assuming your clients choose to disclose their HIV status to you.
