A cab driver took me there today from McD's after crossing the border. He charged me $5 bucks to get to the 'Casa de los Probres' and then to downtown 'centro'.

So even if you take a cab from the zona, it shouldnt be more than $3US.

Make sure you always use the cabs that have like an orange sign and they say 'LIBRE' on the doors. They are the cheapest.

You ascend 9th Street to reach the Casa de Pobres. I've forgotten the cross street, but it's on the left just after you crest a big hill. (If you reach the old La Ley supermarket you went too far.)

As the holidays are comming up, and we all make our fun trips to the zona... I'd like to remind you all that there are also less fortunate people that live on that side of town.

There is a Christian shelter "Casa de los Pobres/Friends of the Poor" just five minutes from the zona ($3 cab drive). They accept food goods, used/new clothing, cash, etc, you name it. You can tell a cab driver to take you there, just tell him "Casa de los Pobres on Altamira".
