home, outcall, or suite??

Any Mt's praticing out of their home?? Is outcalling worth doing?? Or should your clients come see u in a suite?? Can u earn the same amount doing just on of them?? Im working at a clinic, and i am trying to branch off to my own practice. I have no problems going to different events doing chair massages to get my name out. What is the best way to start???

well, you got to start somewhere. I began out of my home, then outcalls (until my back said NO MORE!) then I got my own office space. Doing chair massage events IS a good way to get your name out there. SO are referrals, so I reward my clients for them. I always send a postcard out to new clients & people who have referred them, offering both of them discounts.   It takes a while to build a clientell. You will try many things before you find out what works for you. Did you take a business course during your schooling?

I would recommend working out of your home only if you have a space that you can dedicate to massage.  If someone is coming to your home and they are in the middle of your living room, that doesn't present itself as being very professional.  I would recommend doing outcalls if that is the case.  While there is certainly a clientele who prefers outcalls and MT's who prefer that, it is not for me.  The time spent lugging, setting up, etc. plus the extra wear and tear on my body was just not worth it for me, but it is a good way to start if you cannot work out of your home and are not yet ready to rent space.

Working from your home is idealy the most cost effective. You save money on rent, and at the same time you can claim the space you use in your home as business expense. However, that space must be totally separate and exclusively used for your business.That said, cost effective is not always best. I have not done massage in my home because I need to be able to leave my job at the office. I want my home to be a sanctuary that I can retreat to and not think about work... as much as I love my job.Outcall can be as expensive as renting space depending on how far you drive to accomodate your clients and what the cost of leasing a space is in your area. However, you won't have to deal with zoning and in some places an outcall permit is less expensive than a massage establishment permit.However, with outcall, you must also consider the wear and tear on your table, and on YOU. And driving is time consuming. You can probably see more clients per day in the office.There's the pros and cons as I see them. Hope it helps.-Melody
