Honest Opinions on Newbie Photographs!?

I want some real feedback positive negative, All my photos are as they were taken no editing, I'm new to this so please anyone with some real opinions good or bad with pointers or tech info please write. My gear is as follows :
Canon EOS Rebel XS
58mm EF S 18-55 Lens with Hoya PL CIR Filter,
50mm EF Lens.

I am on a tight budget, so thats it for equipment, oh ya and a 20yr old metal tripod!

Well firstly, edit your pics. Some of the problems I see are very very easily fixable by editing. I like some of the cityscape type shots and a couple of the kitty shots are pretty good. The city shots, I think there are some horizon issues with some of the shots. Overall I think they're the strongest group of shots. The landscapes are just downright boring. There isn't a real overwhelming point of interest or focal point.

You're doing well with your equipment. I think you have a lot of black and whites taken recently, which not that its necessarily bad, it just makes it a little extra dreary when you consider leafless trees and looking generally cold. Color adds some degree of warmth. I like doing some black and white, but I generally keep most of my stuff in color. I think it becomes more effective when used sparingly and in just the right circumstance. Keep up the good work and good luck.

It is a good start. Since you have asked for negative feed back as well, i would suggest you to diversify your portfolio, with at least equal no. of colored and b&w photos and a little more varied subjects.
Kitten is cute, no doubt!
p.s And also try to get into the habit of Captioning all the photographs, it adds to the interest.
