I'm actually in Kentucky. I'm reading Gayle McDonalds book on Massage for hospital patients. I recently purchased Mosby's Pathology for MTs I'll use as a reference. I think I will be fine. All i'm worried about mostly is learning alternate pressure techniques. In a lot of conditions, circulatory massage is contraindicated. I'm sure gentle reflexology would be except able, but I would like to learn more modalities that are not so......mystical (Reiki).
Positional Release Technique (PRT) and Dermoneuromodulation (DNM) are two effective and non-mystical modalities that might work very well for you with a minimum of pressure/effort. DNM in particular, I think.
PRT has many subcategories, including Strain Counterstrain, Orthobionomy, Kinesiotaping, etc. Chaitow's book on PRT is an excellent reference on a wide variety of PRT methods and concepts, but is NOT a "how-to" book. You can find classes on various types of PRT throughout the year, depending in part upon where you live.
DNM classes are not yet available (to my knowledge), but most of what you need to learn is freely available online... if you are willing to put in the effort. PM me for more info if you want more info on DNM.
