How can I approach my crush on facebook chat?

I have had a crush on a guy from my school for a while, and he knows me and caught him looking at me sometimes. We are graduated now so I really have no other way to at least talk to him but I have him as a friend on facebook. So, I have decided to say Hi on facebook chat and see how it goes. Something interesting happened and I want to know if I should tell him. He works at a food place "let's say like wall mart" and my mom went shopping there. She came back home and told me a young man told her something like wow you eat healthy. I asked her to describe him and then I showed her his picture and it was him. Should I tell my crush about this incident. Is it weird that I had a feeling it was him, should I mention this to him when I attempt to talk/chat with him for the first time? and I know you guys will say go talk to him where he works but I want to facebook him first...

umm i dont think you should mention that to him... im sorry but you might come off a little too strong... you're better off going there, in the pretense of buying something and act surprised when you see him )
