How did you raise your rates?

I know that I am ready to charge more for my services,  Iv'e been in business part time for 2 yrs and went full time for the last 6 mo. I feel more confident in the therapy I provide, and recieve a lot of great feedback for the work that I do.  Im asking how did you raise your rates, because I live in an area where MT's are everywhere,  and discount their rate's just to make ends meet.  I want to raise my current rates by $10 for each service, but I'm also worried that if I change my rates that I won't have enough income.Thank's in advance for sharing your idea's and experience's!

How did you raise your rates?

The first of the year is a great time to change prices if you can hold out that long.Every year I send out a holiday letter to my clients. In that letter I tell them of the new prices for the New Year. I also mention gift certificates, so many will buy gift certificates for themselves so they may save a few dollars on future sessions, and you get a little extra cash around the holiday session.

Nov 1st was the first day of my price increase.  I raised my rates by $5 on each service.  October 1st I posted that my rates would be increasing and posted the rates.  Noone has said anything about the rate increase.

I post a notice on the reception desk and in each treatment room.  I post 30 days before the increase and leave it up for 30 days past the increase.  I have lost a few clients over time because of increases but most patients just say "I knew it would happen sometime."

I started out with low rates and this is only my 3rd holiday season, so yes I have done it every year.

Thank's for all the fabulous idea's, I would like to try out a few of these.  I was suprised to hear that a lot of therapist's raise their rates each year.  But it makes me more confident in my decision to finally raise my prices! ;DNeo
