How do I change my facebook chat setup?

It seems like my facebook chat is the only one setup the way it is. When I look over to the left, I no longer see my friends' pictures and if they're available or not. Is there any way I can change that? I've been told to right click the chat box, or something like that, but I can't. And also, on the right hand side of my page, It's my news feed is there. It says things like "John Brown commented on Anna Brooke's staus 'Oh, yeah, I remember now.'" It's really stupid. I'd like to take that off too.
And when I scroll down my news feed, the whole page doesn't scroll down, only my news feed.
