The 3yr DLH is spoiled rotten, has lived here since she was born & has been the only indoor animal for 3months since the momma pit bull & her daughter got their fenced backyard playground & doghouse She has also been the only indoor cat since her adopted mom i.e. the 1 that actually nursed her disappeared shortly after the pit bull puppies arrived 6months ago .

The best way is very gradually. Try to keep the kitten in a separate room for a few days. Then let the older cat come in and have a sniff round and get introduced. The baby kitten (6 weeks is a bit young to be away from the mother?) will know her place in the hierarchy - it may even be that she turns out to be dominant! However, 'slow but sure' is usually the advice when introducing new kittens to a home.

Note to Kathleen: It is not always possible to 'take a kitten back' when it is too young to leave the mother. In my own case, I found my kitten at the side of the road and the vet estimated it to be no older than six weeks. She was a feisty little kit (still is, and now she's 2) and we looked after her like a baby. It's not fair to judge people until you know their circumstances.
