How do i introduce a beaker to my baby ?

My son is 6 months old and i've been advised to introduce a beaker to him.
How do i do it ? I give him it now full of water to play with so it's not strange fr him and he's had a couple of sucks from it but as soon as the liquid hits his mouth he gags. Any help is greatly appreciated :)
