How do I introduce my comic?

I am making a comic book that is going to be about my main character (idk a name yet) and his companion(s) a two headed dog. First off, how should i make my very first comic, like, to introduce the characters and setting. It takes place in a post-nuclear wasteland (reminicent of fallout 3) hence the 2 headed dog.

So going for a post-nuke theme?.... well here are some idea's

I recommend a quiet entry by the protagonist walking down the road of a destroyed town, explaining and showing us flashbacks of how it all happened (Government? Evil guy?)'

the dog should be introduced a couple of chapters in... forcing too many characters in to the first chapter can cause confusion amongst the viewers.
