How do I view past Facebook chat conversations?

I was talking to someone on facebook the other day and trying to remember what all was said is there a way I can look at those chat conversations or are they pretty much gone?

click on the facebook bar and below there should be a messages bar and click on it and there you go!

in the chat box click whoever you were chatting with, if you didn't clear it, all the past messages you sent them will be there, if not, then go to home, and click the messages button at the top left, and it will give you some of your recent messages. click view all messages, and click on the person you want to view, and all of your recent chat/messages will come up.
